MSNBC Week in Pics says: Aquat Madhek grasps the arm of a Catholic Jesuit brother Herber Libel while in the leper colony of Kuelquac in southern Sudan. Diseases like leprosy, eradicated in most of the world, have flourished in southern Sudan during the 20 years of Africa's longest civil war. The photo, taken on Nov. 19, was released by the Associated Press on Dec. 8.

I am so going to hell for this... but damn, what a difference!

*Sigh*...these pictures make me really sad, and also extremely lucky that I live in the US :( ...How much leprosy do we have here?

Actually, I don't know.

This is depressing. I'm going to go jump off a building now, bye.

108 cases, no deaths in the US in 1999. Easily treatable with antibiotics.

Suicide is the 11th biggest killer in the US in all age ranges, with 30,622 in the US 1999.

HTH

wow, that's down. Suicide used to be 8th leading cause of death.

Why kill yourself anymore when you can tune out with medication?

I thought body parts fell off if you have untreated leprosy? Aside from a few teeth, that guy looks pretty put together....

Maybe the guy's body ends just below the crop.

the way i see it, suicide is for suckers. i've had the worst year and a half of my life and now things are starting to look on the up and up. no matter how bad things get in life, eventually, things will get better. i'm proof.

The Cellar beats suicide by a wide margin.:)
