12/5/2003: Thais prepare feast for monkeys

The Thai town of Lopburi has a monkey population of about 3,000. In 1989 a local businessman somehow came to the notion that the monkeys were responsible for his good fortune. So he started having an annual banquet for them. It has grown and now the monkeys are offered 4,400 pounds of fruits and vegetables in two rounds of nine-course dinners.

And Pepsi.

We'll take what we can get, but monkeys prefer IBC Cream Soda.

I see the monkeys like to get into the spirit of things by wearing blue eyeshadow. How nice.

I wonder how many cans of Mountain Dew it'd take to kill that monkey..

If you throw them hard enough, I think 2 or 3 would be sufficient.

Kinda reminds me of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.

And we think we have a problem with squirrels ...

Is it just me, or does it really look like that poor thing is being prepared for cooking in the style of a "beer can chicken"?
