I'm sure April is a nice person overall, but I don't think she's ready for the Cellar. At the same time, FNF and insoluble have been basically egging her on for the last couple of days, so I'd say they're partly to blame as well.
Then why not take out _all_ the trash, instead of leaving some rotten apples behind to fester?

This place operates by rough consensus, the mods have no power other than having their own areas which they do control.

First of all. This so called 'child' HAS a child and at 17 I think she might as well be considered an adult.
Yeah I'm 4 years older than her but I think I'm about 20 years ahead of her in maturity. (Thats unless you think that having a kid makes someone mature)

Anyhow, if the mods wanted her gone, they would have already banned her. So waiting for a mods blessing to get her access filtered isn't really a worthwhile effort... if they wanted her gone they simply would have blocked her already.
But!
Considering calling on your own... first you have to ask why does her school have the filter in place? Obviously they have a very extensive filter since it has seemingly blocked "everywhere but here".
It would seem that the school officials are very concerned about controlling internet access and what the students can and can't see, for whatever reasons.
Considering that so many other sites have been filtered by her school, it stands to reason that they only reason that the cellar isn't filtered is simply b/c it "fell under the radar".
By that logic, it stands to reason that the school would indeed like to know about the cellar, and add it to their filter list. You would be doing them a service by calling this one in.
Of course, getting the person that answers the phone to actually do anything about it would be another challenge....
Anyhow, I'm really indifferent on this one. But it's still fun to watch. ;)

You still are choosing to ignore that the site goes on about respecting privacy, which means in turn that the members ought to as well. What you did is worse than anything she has done.
And even if she is 17 and has a kid, she is still a child herself. You should be embarrassed that you are letting a child get to you so much that you feel the need to post her information in a public forum.
The privacy policy doesn't cover people's posts. Those are public. Hence the term <i>public</i> message board. Users are free to do whatever they want with that information.
Also, only Undertoad is obliged to abide by the privacy policy, as he is the owner of the website.
So, you'd be okay with someone posting personal information about you that you didn't give them (didn't DIRECTLY give them, since she gave enough for P.I. FileNotFound to sleuth it out)?
1. The information posted was public information, obtained legally, through legal means.
2. The only personal information that might have been posted about the person in question is what school she goes to...no one for certain knows her real name (unless they've been told by her in a private message) or if this is even the right school (see #4). Worst case scenario: A good estimate/guess was made, based on information posted to a public forum.
3. This site contains material that is not suitable for minors. A school would most likely want to block sites that contain such material.
4. A disclaimer was included with the original information.

It doesn't matter if I'm okay with it. Anyone has the power to glean facts from public information. There's nothing I can do about it. Except pitch a fit, I guess. But that wouldn't do a whole lot of good.

Perhaps the "child" should not be here based on her age. I realize that this is probably a board for all ages...I'm assuming that, since there isn't anything that says "18 and under needs parental permission" or something of that ilk.
Plus, wouldn't she get
MORE out of being on a board with people closer to her age range and in her situation (single motherhood). By her hanging out here with "grown folk" makes it look like she's trying to be older than she really is or that she can "hang" with older people.

A sick person would go to the trouble of finding out her information while a potentially sick person would have it at a glance, considering how a previous post has it all wrapped up with a bow.

We just had a big blow up involving two of our regulars in another thread, regarding posting opinion as fact. Depending on the situation, I'd say it can be rather trivial. I think we all do it on occasion.
However, as a whole, I think people should definitely avoid doing such a thing, for it cause a great deal of problems, from misunderstandings up to slander and libel. I merely advised you that it's not a good thing to do around here. Whether you choose to heed my advice or not is up to you.

There is an ignore option on Cellar...I personally don't use b/c I don't find it useful to block posts from certain people.
So, let's review: A Dwellar remarked that he would like to notify said person's school to have our site filtered from their internet. Putting 2 and 2 together, I found what could be the school, but as I mentioned, no guarantees. After giving it some thought, I removed the information, but it still exists in a post by FNF and in a thread created by Juju. Whether they wish to have it removed from their posts/threads is up to them and/or Undertoad. Were any laws broken? It doesn't look like it. Was it wrong? That's a judgment call to be made by each individual.
As an aside, I hope I AM wrong in suspecting that you are someone else posting under another user ID.

April is the way she is because she's a child? That's both insulting to actual young people and too easy on her. I've been using BBSs (to use the old name) since I was far younger than April, and never managed to make nearly as much of an ass out of myself (and I usually am pretty good at making an ass out of myself). This includes BBSs and forums mainly populated by adults.
I imagine there are several regulars on the Cellar who could say the same -- including some who are that young now. It's doing them a disservice to blame April's behavior on her age.

I was just wondering...are newspapers also risking a student's life and limb when they publish their names and the name of the school, say in the sports pages or when the honor roll comes out?
I mean, then, you get a full name and a definite school name, probably even the grade the kid is in...even a picture of little darlings.

When you read about someone in the newspaper it is a different thing than interacting with them on the internet. A deviant may feel that he or she has a real relationship (however filled with animosity) with the girl due to their interactions here, and thus may feel inclined to go further than he or she would have having just read her name in the newspaper.
Regarding stating opinion as fact, I feel it is a great waste of time to preface everything with "In my opinion." Clearly, I am writing it, thus it is my opinion. When in a discussion of morals or other non-concrete ideas, I generally take what everyone says as their opinion. This is a conversation, not a game of Jeopardy. I will continue to post my opinions without the opinion disclaimer, especially in cases like this. There is no question in my mind that posting that information is wrong. You can feel free to disagree with that, it will just confirm that we don't share the same moral standards, and what I know is true for me may not be true for you, but that does not mean that I will back down from it.
If you want to blather on about semantics, feel free. Post each sentence of this post and dissect it. I'm not going to cow down and change the way I express myself because you can't bother to discern the difference between me saying:
"It is wrong to post information about a child on the internet" (my personal morals)
and
"The first president of the United States was Johnny Rotten" (a blatant misrepresentation of fact)
I will concede, however, that April doesn't seem to give a rat's ass that this information has been posted, so it's really a moot point.
A deviant can get any idea he/she wants, based on any information anywhere. There are lots of cases where delusional people imagined that they had a relationship with someone on TV or in the movies, when in fact they did not.
I'm not sure it is practical to expect everyone and everything in the world to function as though a deviant might somehow abuse the information they've gathered in a public forum.
You are, however, entirely entitled to your opinions and morals. Hey, at least you have some. A lot of people seem to lack them altogether.

I will agree with you that it isn't practical for everyone to live in fear of deviant abusing every tidbit of information given. I do think, however, that it should be my own decision to post my information just as it should be your decision to post yours. I realize that the chances are slim of anything happening as a result of information being posted in this forum, but if that 1 in 1000 (I'm making up that statistic, don't hold me to it) chance happens to occur and a lunatic does abuse the information, I would feel pretty lousy if I were the one to have posted the information. With all due respect, I attempted to defend a minor's rights, not her value as a person. I said repeatedly that she was an ass, but that did not justify her information being posted on an adult oriented message board. From there, I was called profane names and devalued, apparently (from what I gleaned from your post) because I had bad timing about when I joined.
I did not defend anyone else that I can recall. I will gladly leave this alone, but when people continually post disparaging remarks about me I feel compelled to defend myself.
I also do much extracirricular work for an anti-misogyny league and even more with children's rights in this city so you can understand why april's school's addy plus the word c**t struck a sore spot.

When someone is called a cunt, it is usually in a derogitory way, an attempt to insult someone. The person who did it to me was one Robert Buck of 2372 Gillis Rd, Mount Airy, MD 21771. He's still metabolizing because after a BB hits your eye at some 590 feet per second, you're really not thinking about anything else, and after a week in the hospital and months of freaking doctor appointments, I really just felt like getting on with my life. He was talking some shit about it at school, but with an IQ of probably 85 (he was *really* slow), I figured it was just because he was dumb. If I ever lit into him, I figured I probably wouldn't stop until he was dead. I don't need the hassles associated with murder, so I just dropped it.
It happened in '95. It's taken some getting used to, but life is pretty normal. It doesn't affect me very much. It has certainly made some things more challenging, and it's not like I'm glad it happened, but I'd rather have lost the eye than, say, a hand.

Well, the 2 times I was on unemployment were not due to any fault of my own (that I know of)--both were unavoidable situations. There wasn't anything I could do to change them (other than look for new jobs, which I did).
So, how would you explain the first comment? Was it said to "teach me a lesson", b/c I gave you shit about your eye?
No, I was just fucking around with you. If I wanted to "teach you a lesson", I would have brought it up a long time ago. Like I said, it's not a huge deal.
I do consider being unemployed a situation that can generally be remedied if you work hard enough. I know that you were looking for a job, and it's all good. I didn't write it angry or anything. But "looking for a job" and "being so desperate to work that I was begging Steve's Prince of Steaks to hire me at minimum wage so I could have a paycheck" are two different things. I'm not saying you were a lazy bastard, but I seriously doubt you were scouring the city looking for any place that would take you. You were too busy posting on the Cellar. :)

He definitely meant to shoot at me, because I got shot in the arm as well (and have the scar to prove it). I don't think he meant to shoot me in the eye. I don't think it occurred to him that what he was doing wasn't just the most dandy idea from which nothing wrong could ever result. Like I said, he was extremely dumb. (If you think that I think OnyxCougar and LUVBUGZ are dumb... they are really basically just average intelligence. Robert Buck was actually dumb. He couldn't take normal classes at school, but he wasn't in the "special" classes either. 85 is probably right about where his IQ was.)

Well, think about it, you can live a basically normal life with only one eye. It definitely takes some adjustment, but it's not a major life-altering happening unless you let it be. The only thing that's affected is my vision. Driving is a little bit trickier, but bigger mirrors and whatnot make that a non-issue. I'll never be able to serve in the armed forces, but I wasn't planning on doing that anyway. I decided pretty much right after it happened that I wasn't going to spend the rest of my life feeling sorry for myself.
If you lose a limb though (or even just a hand or a foot), think about how different things are. Spankin' that booty, using a computer, driving, eating, picking up groceries, bench pressing... most of the functions of an eye are duplicated in the other eye. Depth perception obviously is gone (close one eye and then try to catch stuff that someone throws to you, like a pen or an apple - kinda tricky now!) and peripheral vision is affected a bit. I needed to re-learn how to shoot a rifle, 'cause my right eye was the dominant one (and it's the one I lost). But I can still do all that other stuff.
Now, if it was between losing both eyes or losing a hand... no fuckin' choice. Good-bye hand. They can re-attach those and you need serious physical therapy to make it useful, but with the hundreds of thousands (millions?) of nerve fibers working that eye... fat fucking chance. Maybe in my lifetime I'll see out of it again.

You should not playfully start insulting people as a way of cementing your friendship if you have an invisible line they cannot cross.
This is inconsiderate at best, game-playing at worst. Suddenly you go from happily taunting to being hurt, and there is no way to know where that line is.
Either you have to drop the practice of insulting people as a way of being close to them, or you have to accept *anything* they hand back to you.

sycamore cracking eye jokes is not my favorite thing in the world, because if I could change it, I would, and yeah, it's kind of a shitty thing that happened. It's sort of like making rape jokes to a rape victim - one of those things you normally don't do. So when he first did it (it doesn't really phase me any more, because I expect it), I was taken aback. Now, it's kinda like "oh well". Like I said before, I'm not losing any sleep over it. I think about it for probably about two or three seconds, and then I'm over it. sycamore is a pretty cool dude, and I like him. He's made eye jokes for a while now, and I haven't stopped liking him. No one need get upset at people taking cracks at me (I can handle them), especially playful ones.
If you don't want something discussed on the Cellar, <b>don't mention it on the Cellar</b>. It's not like I started a fucking thread "sycamore picks on me unfairly about my eye". I have the actual eye in and not a glass eye. I decided to keep it because there is a painful recovery period (or so I was told) with the removal of the eye. Like I said, I just kind of wanted to get it over with and move on, and a painful recovery period didn't seem like it was going to help.
I'll probably have something done eventually, but I'm not sure what. Right now, it's about 80% of the size of my other eye, due to loss of pressure fluid (that, you know, oozed down my face after I got shot - most offensive question I've ever been asked is "Did you lick it off?" - the answer is "No"). You can definitely tell, as soon as you look at me, that something is not right with the eye. There's also the fact that to sew the hole up, the pupil had to kind of be manipulated and blah blah blah. I'll take a picture with a camera that has a good macro function. Anyway, I haven't been very active in pursuing an eye cover (they make them to look exactly like your other eye) because I don't really give a fuck what I look like (because those that would judge me by appearance aren't people that I want to know). But yeah, one of these days, so I don't freak out the kids' friends.

I saw that for the first time a couple days ago...I wasn't terribly impressed. And it has an 8. something on IMDb! I was astounded. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't something I could watch every year. Now, Christmas Vacation...I can watch that every year.
For me, Christmas Vacation was a see once and over.
A Christmas Story, on the other hand is endlessly entertaining and I look forward to the 24 hour marathon of it on TNT every year.
