Most Users Online Figure

You know, I've wondered this for a long time, but never bothered to ask.

How in the hell did The Cellar ever manage to have 800 plus users online simultaneously? Was it some sort of prearranged confab or something? Did the counter shit the bed?

I recall some mention of the specific event back in the day, but I'm far too lazy to look it up. In a nutshell, though, some thread (possibly IOTD) was linked to from some larger site, thereby creating a large influx of people.

I think it was either some Japanese site that linked to us, or Fark that linked to us.

This IotD got on Fark, which brought the masses to us on that particular day.

That thread also holds the record for most views--16,000+.

Any of those people still active?
