Archer pointed out this beaut -- a satellite image showing the wildfires through Southern California. This was taken on Sunday.

Best way to appreciate this picture is found in a map from the LA Times. Northern most fire is Ventura County moving into Simi Valley. The big LA fire is really in San Bernadino. However, based upon where the fire is, I suspect the most destructive fires are centered on San Diego (not including the one accidentally set by Marines in Camp Pendleton). The Cedar Fire.

See this map from LA Times. Compare map to UT's satellite picture:

Does anyone think that these fires could be terrorist related?

It doesn't take a terrorist to throw a cigarette butt out the window of a car. California is chock full of dry underbrush this time of year.

I know but if it takes that little to cause this much havoc, why wouldn't a few terrorists take advantage of the situation?

I also have to wonder why some of these areas weren't controlled burned under favorable weather conditions instead of letting things get to the tinder box state.

Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity.

I used to live in San Jacinto, near Hemet, and my mom is in Riverside, south of San Bernardino, my nephew is a Marine at Pendleton, and one of my nieces lives in Moreno Valley and commutes to Fontana. I talked to her a couple days ago and she says the pool at the apt complex she manages is completely black with ash. At some points, the ash in the air is very similar to when Mt. St. Helens 'sploded.

The largest fire outside of San Diego was started by a hunter who was lost. He lit a signal fire so that his partner could find him. Any deer would say a terrorist started that fire.
