Language font help

Some of you may have noticed that I changed my title.

It's supposed to be russian characters.

I don't know how to "turn on" the language features of the board.

UT!! HELP!!

No no, HTML just isn't allowed in the user titles, sorry. In fact I don't believe it's even an option I can turn off.
OnyxCougar • Oct 7, 2003 11:12 am
HMM.. I didn't think it was html, but looking at it, I guess those are html character codes. Well crap. The board doesn't have mutlifont language support at all? I looked on the users page, but didn't find anything.

A classmate of mine from college was once confronted with a journal article about a German composer in a German journal written in (you guessed it) German. She said, "They should write these things in English so everybody can read it."

No no, it does, it just doesn't permit it in the user titles. You could use the extended characters in a message but it's disabled in user titles and sigs and such because people can abuse it to do all kinds of weird things.

You can put those chars into your message though!
OnyxCougar • Oct 7, 2003 11:33 am
No problem, UT. I'll console myself with putting it on my webpage. :)

I've noticed other versions of this BBS software that allow user Avatars/Icons/Pictures under their usernames. Maybe UT could set that up, and then OC could make her Russki thing into a graphic?

I'll now run and hide, since I'm pretty sure UT doesn't need this kind of trouble right now. ;)
OnyxCougar • Oct 7, 2003 11:36 am
**giggle** You assume I would know how to put it into a graphic. Really. DON'T worry about it. It's OK. Really. Honest.

Avatars are turned off because they make any forum look like ass.

Yeah...I'm on an automotive site that uses this same software, and they have *everything* imaginable turned on...I can barely find the posts on that board.

Hey!! How come darclauz gets to put the ny letter and the funky i letter of spanish in HER title, but I can't put cyrillic in mines??

Suspendí el español tres veces.

Oh! OK, she must have just cut 'n' pasted the extended ASCII, instead of the HTML ampersand thingie.

See what happens if you create your sig in Word or something, and cut and paste it into the field there when you update your title.

It's still copying and pasting the wrong thing in there. Hold the Windows key, type R, when the run dialog pops up, type "charmap" sans quotes and hit enter. Select your characters, double click them in order to get them in the box up top, then hit Copy. Paste that in your user title box.

Undertoad • Oct 8, 2003 12:52 pm
OK dar, what'd ya do...
dave • Oct 8, 2003 12:53 pm
Well, what can I say? Cyrillic sucks.
dave • Oct 8, 2003 12:54 pm
Dude, it's not hard. I had German in there, with an umlaut-a (as in, Ich bin enttäuscht) and it was no problem. So fucked up cyrillic isn't supported in the web browsers. Oh well.
OnyxCougar • Oct 8, 2003 12:55 pm
Cyrillic *IS* supported in web browsers, Dave.

lynx is throwing fits over that.

Well then, what can I say? Shitty cyrillic isn't supported in vBulletin user titles.
OnyxCougar • Oct 8, 2003 12:59 pm
:( Why is it shitty? Because it's not English? Or because vBulletin can't read it in the titles/signature?
Undertoad • Oct 8, 2003 1:13 pm
Whoa, I think international character support is an add-on for most browsers. That has nothing to do with getting it into the user title...
dave • Oct 8, 2003 1:38 pm
Because it pushes your buttons?

As far as I know, all those Latin-ish "special" characters in Spanish and German are in the ANSI character set. That's how they got by for so long before Unicode came out.
