9/6/2003: Japanese Star Trek scooter

Not in a million billion years.

I like Star Trek okay, especially TNG and there have been points in time where I would be considered a big fan. (Although I never went to any conventions.)

But this item, which was produced to promote the Japanese DVD release of Nemesis, is clearly an abomination. A scooter with a tiny 50cc engine, this would not even be fun to ride if your friends never saw you on it. But I bet a 35 mph (55 km/h) scooter is useful in crowded Japan, and so maybe there is a chance a buyer would actually want to ride this every day.

She had to squeeze in order to fit into the picture frame. It took me a while to realize that it looked odd.

50CC is nowhere near enough power to even *charge* the phaser banks!

Maybe Scotty can bore/stroke it out to something decent, maybe 65CC.

And would have no hesitation about being seen riding it.
