8/27/2003: Tomatina 2003

It's the annual Tomatina Festival in Spain, the last Wednesday of every August. The IotD has seen it before, but this glorious event deserves full coverage every year.

Tens of thousands of revelers do battle with over-ripe tomatoes. Here a truck backs up with fresh ammo.



99% of the mass is men, all shirtless and stuff, which makes me wonder if it's considered a guy-watching event, for visually-oriented guy-watchers.



But this year there were also a few gals spotted in the crowd.





And after, with the streets full of pulp and juice, it's a good kind of tired.

Thanks for the timely posting of the tomato images. Reminds me that we just up the last jar of home canned tomatoes. Better get the canner out and start boiling!

I'm surprised they haven't made this into one of those reality shows that are all the rage now. They could call it "Spaghetti (straps) with Meathead sauce"
