Cellar seems to be flagging boards as "read", even though I haven't seen them. Apparantly, some time after I read one message, something times out and marks every board as having been read. How do I stop that from happening?
That's been asked a couple of times before (
here and
here). Undertoad has said that it's too difficult to fix.
It is.
If you run Mozilla or Firebird or any browser that supports tabbed browsing, do what I do! Hit "Read new messages", then open every new thread in a new tab. Then all your new threads stay new because they're in a new tab.

What UT really meant: "Look you stupid bastards, I pay to run this fucking site. So, shut the fuck up and deal with this minor inconvenience."
My "solution" has been to use a browser that doesn't reload a page when you return to it ... so I bring up the new threads search, and then click back to it when I'm done reading and/or posting to a thread. It keeps the state of the new thread markers static.
Of course, if I accidentally click the close box, I'm screwed because I lose the markers.
It's not elegant, but it works.
I've also had to resort to logging out and then using the "view today's active threads" hotlink on the main page.

So the last-read date is per-user, rather than per-board or -thread? That would explain the difficulty, as well as the workaround.
I'm not really sure - been a while since I really looked into it.
