7/23/2003: Earth-bound rainbow

This was the Earth Sci pic of the day a few days ago, and it boggled my mind. There's a lengthy explanation of the effect at the link above, involving mountain mist and angles of the sun, but I'm not sure I understand it. Just be aware: rainbows can happen near the ground too.

That rainbow is no fun at all...It's to easy to find the dancing leprechaun and his pot of Irish Euros. Curved 'bows are the way forward:3eye:
