Boids

It was a dark and stormy day.
I heard all this racket and across the street a bunch (murder) of crows were harassing a hawk. The hawk landed in this 100ft dead tree as did the crows. At least 10 minutes later the hawk took off with the crows in hot pursuit. The crows never shut up the whole time and were still squawking as they flew out of ear shot.

Why do the crows do that? I'd think the hawk would have first rights to the area?

Because of the "pack" mentality, I imagine. One crow prolly wouldn't take on a hawk, but get 6 or 7 together and BAM! instant bullies. Haven't you seen "The Birds"?

I don't know UT. I see quite a few hawks and a few eagles in the area but the crows, maybe one or two. And never a gang like this or so noisy. Maybe they had relatives visiting from the old country and were out having fun by bullying the hawk like Onyx said.:D

I've seen hawks get chased away by birds as small as sparrows. They don't like to take on more than one bird at a time.

Well they won't be sitting in that tree any more. I was worried for some time, it would fall toward me, but it didn't.:)

Last year it's mate came toward me and took out the wires and both guard rails.
