I'm about to launch into part 2b of my kitchen cabinet process. Are there any special touches y'all like to see in cabinets?
[COLOR=purple]Ew no. Glass doors let people look into my haphazardly stacked dishes and it spoils the fun when they can see the dishes are gong to fall out when they open the door.
I like light colored wood with handles that match the decor, like chickens or pigs or something. I'm very much into everything matching in the kitchen.
I also like below-the-cabinet mounted applicances, like coffee makers, can openers and paper towel holders, all matching the color scheme.

glass doors are great, but i wouldnt make them all glass. i like the mini flip-out drawers you see under kitchen sinks nowadays. just enough room to hide sponges, handwashing supplies, etc. built in wine racks always look nice, maybe with the bar-style wineglass hangers below it.

[COLOR=purple]Well *I* wouldn't put them up, but my sister has her kitchen all done in cows, black and white tile, cow towels, cow paper towel holders, a cow ceiling fan, etc. Her cabinet handles are cow faces.
My point was, don't limit your thinking to plain old handles, think outside the box a little. [/COLOR]
This isn't EXACTLY for the cabinets, but a nice highlight I had in a place a lived in a couple of years back was the $5.00 beer bottle opener mounted just above the garbage can. A real time saver if you're forgetful like me and constantly lose that necessary little appliance.

i totally agree, but i had to give you a hard time about the livestock. :) depending on the decor, you could even make your own handles. ive seen them made from old spoons, handmade beads, etc. they look great when done right.

I had initially floated the idea of open shelving, followed by a retreat to glass doors. Either would have forced a minimal level of tidyness and possibly forced us to get better looking tableware. Sneaky said no way, I suspect she has Onyx-like plans for my eventual demise under a hail of pfaltzgraf. I'm going to make the frame of the doors of cherry wood with with a bead board center probably milkpainted slate blue.
I'm looking for pulls and do like the idea of making them out of the ordinary, maybe the skulls of departed pets? ;)
Perths mention of the tip out drawer under the sink really is a good idea, it'd keep the dishrag off the faucet. I think, I have an old Coca-Cola bottle opener somewhere maybe I'll put the trash can on a slider (under the counter) with the opener also attached.
Just beautiful classic wood. simple panels, not too fussy. I'm not a fan of painted color in the cabinet- I think solid wood has more staying power.( If you went with glass doors on a few- which is lovely, you could put a sheer color of fabric tension rodded inside if you wanted color and a bit of masking action.) I'd be very careful with tile too, to get something classic, that will not look dated in 10 years. I'd keep the color in areas you can change more easily, like wall and fabric. -and you'll have lots of color going on your stuff- with dishes, curtains, rugs, towels, various kitchen stuffs, so I think simpler cabinets would work better.
Dress them up with some amazing handmade hardware, I could see that looking great. I'm a big fan of compartments- get some creative pull out or turning storage action for the corners- enough for all the big clanky pans-and pull out shelves for the low cabinets. Good task lighting for underneath .
Thing is: The posts are wood, the beams are wood, the ceiling ...wood, the flooring mmm... prolly wood. I consider the doors an accent I can do again in a few years.... but that is something to think on.

I liked Perth's handles made of beads or spoons...you could even get some porcelain clay and make some of your own. Be careful, though because good porcelain clay will shrink immensely when fired.
