In Siberia, the Batagaika Crater is a 1km long, 50m deep gash in the earth -a "megaslump"- and it is getting bigger. At the very bottom of the exposed outcrop, the permafrost dates back 650,000 years. Scientists say the megaslump was caused by deforestation and mineral exploration and the thawing of the permafrost is making it worse. It releases carbon monoxide and methane, accelerating climate change.

I had a similar disappointment in reverse -when I was looking for the exciting name they called this phenomenon, the options were megaslump and crater

This is the biggest one, a bunch of others have appeared in that region recently.
