Talking to a guy in San Diego who grew up in Minnesota, and was big on model cars, Hot Wheels and Slot cars. He told me he had never heard of Hess trucks, and I was surprised. I guess they were an East Coast thing, at Christmas the Hess stations sold them. They were excellent quality, complete with batteries and dirt cheap. When an Elmo or Barbie would knock you back a hundred plus a black eye fighting for it, Hess trucks could be had for ten or fifteen bucks. I gave most of mine away a few years ago but may have one lurking somewhere.
