This artist takes shiny new Aluminum 24oz cans and bends them to his will using his fingers. No kidding, no tools, just his hands. It’s almost like he’s using the force... that’s some creative fondling. :yesnod:

Sculptor Noah Deledda transforms everyday aluminum cans into works of art using nothing but his fingertips. Deledda carefully presses and creases intricate geometric patterns into the surface of plain cylindrical cans using carefully placed pressure from his fingers and the edge of his nails.

The artist explains in a statement on his site, “Through sculpture I try to create something unique out of an ordinary object. In this case, a common disposable object. The technique itself also embodies this theme of elevation by implementing the incidental gestures of disposal, the ‘scratch, dent and crease.’ Through artistic principles these actions are re-imagined.”

Translation: I can do this really cool thing and you can’t, neener, neener, neener. :lol:

REDEFINING WHAT THE PURPOSE OF AN OVERLOOKED OBJECT CAN BE. my work focuses on the objectification of a scratched, dented aluminum can. It uses these flaws, accidents and failures to depict art. A sculptural method that interprets the damages that are inflicted upon disposal of this ordinary item.

It's cool. The guy has skills.

So day after day, the guy is fidgeting with his hands as he's drinking with his buddies, and he notices he can make little patterns in the cans he is denting. He thinks he might have something here. So he tries to do something a little more purposeful instead of just crinkling the can a bit. It looks pretty good. So then he somehow sources unpainted cans? Or maybe he polishes the paint off them? And turns it into a thing.

These remind me a lot of Happy Monkey's tape creations.

It looks almost like a zen meditation thing where you let the object tell you how it wants to be bent.

Just watching the video, I feel like those cans are thinner than the standard ones we get around here. If I press my thumbnail into a soda can, the dent extends halfway up the body, not just in the little section under my thumb--and likely as not, it'll pop back out again after I take the pressure off.

I was curious as to whether he fills the cans with something to assist in structural stability/consistency.

I agree those cans are thinner than we see, and they are quart cans. I'm sure they are new as polishing the paint off cans that thin would be prohibitive. Any resulting variation in thickness would mess him up. Bet if he grabbed your wrist you couldn't break free. :haha:
