12/19/19 and I've avoided Little Drummer Boy.

Griff • Dec 19, 2019 7:55 am
Family challenge, so far Pete is out.
I heard a musical reference to it in a rap but it was ruled not Drummer Boy.
glatt • Dec 19, 2019 8:21 am
I LOVED that song when i was a little non-drumming boy.

We have it on a Harry Belafonte CD that hasn't made it into the rotation yet this season. I'm not going to play God and interfere with CD selection, so I may hear it this weekend.
footfootfoot • Dec 20, 2019 1:31 pm
So what are the stakes? Are we trying to NOT hear it while out and about, or trying TO hear it?

Is there a few seconds grace where you can run from the store shouting lalalalalala, or is it instant death from the first notes?
Griff • Dec 20, 2019 5:36 pm
Avoid it. One note and you're out. Stakes? Never thought about that...

My shopping is done so, I've got a shot! I listened to a teenage girl with a ukulele in a bookstore this afternoon, that was sweet and drummer boy free.
fargon • Dec 20, 2019 9:08 pm
I have yet to hear the Little Drummer Boy this year. I know my day is coming.
monster • Dec 20, 2019 9:10 pm
I clocked out 1st November. there are at least two versions on the store's piped playlist :(. Both fucking awful.
monster • Dec 20, 2019 9:11 pm
Cum they told me, Rumpy-pump-pump.....

Ditto.
Griff • Dec 21, 2019 2:29 pm
Well, I'm the last one standing. It's only a matter of time as we are full on Christmas music at this time. Lil Pete got burned by Bowie/Crosby Peace on Earth Little Drummer Boy mix.
fargon • Dec 22, 2019 9:15 am
I still haven't heard Little Drummer Boy.
xoxoxoBruce • Dec 22, 2019 10:40 am
It's an interesting and fun family/group exercise, however it implies hearing Little Drummer Boy Pa Rum Pum Pum Pum is a bad thing. That is not true.
Clodfobble • Dec 22, 2019 11:05 am
I haven't heard the song yet this season, but every time I open this thread, it gets stuck in my head for a few hours.
Undertoad • Dec 22, 2019 11:15 am
I *was* the little drummer boy in 5th grade. They had me stand in front with a snare and play the part while the 2nd graders sang

It was okay
Griff • Dec 22, 2019 11:29 am
Your endorsement seems limited.
Undertoad • Dec 22, 2019 11:53 am
Somebody had to do it. But the actual drumming in the song is kind of lame, and doesn't really stand up to having some kid be at the front and play it. Here's THE Little Drummer Boy and all he actually does is play embellished quarter notes.
lumberjim • Dec 22, 2019 1:50 pm
I'm with Bruce

I'd rather avoid a song I dislike, like that fucking abomination by Paul McCartney, simply having a wonderful Christmas time.
fargon • Dec 23, 2019 8:04 am
Last night at 7:00PM I heard the Little Drummer Boy I heard it on Simply Folk on WPR.

1. That Paul McCartney thing made me hate Western civilization.

2. Who the hell plays drums around an infant in the first place?

That old man is obviously high on crack and should be arrested. Or beaten.
Gravdigr • Dec 23, 2019 1:17 pm
Give him both. It's Christmas.

Maybe a Rush cover with an extended Neil Peart solo...
xoxoxoBruce • Dec 28, 2019 11:05 am
Avoid the little drummer boy or pay the price...
