The mother of a teen who died by suicide is suing the Archdiocese of Detroit over his funeral, claiming a Catholic priest chose that moment to debate whether or not 18-year-old Maison Hullibarger would get into heaven. [more]

I agree the priest should not have forced his religious views on this but sueing is stupid.... What do they hope to achieve??

If they can establish that the priest committed a procedural error which may have prejudiced their dead son in the eyes of God, they can ask the judge to issue a court order prohibiting God from taking the suicide into consideration so the deceased can still get into heaven on a technicality.

I was informed by a Catholic the Church has 'softened' its stance on suicide, takin' into account psycho-disorders and whatnot. So: mebbe the teen ain't burnin' in eternal hellfire after all.

Maybe Saint Peter just gives them a hot foot at the Pearly Gates and lets it go at that.
