The short answer, no they are not.
I just saw a thing a while back where this guy was talking about owning his Tesla.
Said and done, his home electric bill went up $36 a month, his car insurance went up $500 a year (although he said it "might have" gone up with or without the electric car).
He talked about not quite anticipated costs/savings. No oil changes. No gas. Some free charging. And right down the street is a tire shop that offers free tire rotation for Tesla owners. He applied some of these non-costs toward his operating costs to offset some of the unanticipated expenditures.
Still...
I think it was less than half the cost of owning a traditional automobile.
Humbug.
