May 6th, 2019: “The Picture Doesn’t Do It Justice”

How many times have you said “the picture doesn’t do it justice?”
How many times have you heard someone else say it?
You set up camp in the late afternoon, scurrying around to make sure every thing is secure before dark.
Supper is on the fire, beer is on ice, when you suddenly notice the last rays of the day setting fire to the icey distant peaks.
A fog starting to obscure the valley floor, a bull Moose feeding on water plants.
The whole scene is mesmerizing, but changes every few minutes, no time to mess with the camera, I’ll get a picture in the morning.
But that morning picture looks nothing like what you experienced, so you’re saying , “the picture doesn’t do it justice.”

You can't really photograph an experience.

Why I carry the camera in my pocket.

It's true the pictures don't do it justice, and it's also true you can photograph an experience.

But the pictures I take are prompts for my memory of the experience, and sometimes help me convey the injustice of a lack of a shared experience.

Picture notes are worth a thousand words.

...the injustice of an unshared experience...

That's almost poetic.
