Isn't rapeseed the same as canola?

     I think whoever came up with this had just gotten back from a little "visit" to Amsterdam...

I'm from Germany, so I know a lot about this. The rapeseed comes from the rape fruit, a bright, cheerful little thing that that is surprisingly sour.

Yep - same stuff - canola was the marketing name made up when someone realized that selling a product with the word rape in it was "non PC"

The whole name always put me off....seeds of rape...sounds like a second rate anti-porn rant or something.

Canola is a genetic variation of rapeseed developed by Canadian plant breeders specifically for its nutritional qualities, particularly its low level of saturated fat.

I don't know about that but there was a lot of apparently unfounded paranoia about canola/rapeseed oil on an organics list serve I used to subscribe to. They thought the stuff was totally toxic.

I wonder if Rape seeds would grow the grapes of wrath.
