Thank you for your service

Doesn't that sound like something Donald Trump would say.? Or Dick Cheney? Or Oliver North? Or that Huckabee Sanders twit?

Everyone can thank me for my service by never using that phrase again.
That goes especially for the hundreds of thousands of VA workers and contractors who apparently are ordered to use it twice in every deadend contact.
Stopping war would be much better, thank you!

Doesn't have to be military. It could be service to the Peace Corps, it could be picking up trash from the side of a road, it could be building parks and playgrounds... anything in service to the country, to us all.

But I didn't do any of that, so my thanks is my only recompense. I suppose this means thanks is not enough and I should go out and do some of that. But I'm tired.

The culture is in a self-flagellating mood. You may want to hang onto the thanks for when this is over and people believe in something worth defending again.

Now, now, it was your hard earned money that helped pay for other people's service through your tax dollars.

Thank you for your contribution.

That is, of course: unless, you don't want to be thanked; because, you know, it sounds like something a political party might say and people aren't keen on our political parties right now.

If that's the case, never mind.

Maybe even, thanks for nuthin'.

The phrase always makes me imagine it's what you might say to a ho as you zipped up

...but I'm a cynical immigrant who still has issues with "Have a Nice Day" after 17 years....

But thanks for doing something I certainly don't have the guts for. And I agree, let's stop the unnecessary warring.

Taken under advisement.

Well...

To everyone else, then:

Thank you for my freedom.
