Will not disappoint. The thing is really well shot, catches the mood of the original(s), and basically just pulls you into that reality.

This is at the top of my list, gonna see it in IMAX next week with Twil and SonofV.

Staying away from media mentions... but not having a lot of success.

Around the corner from me[1] is a theater showing it in 3D. I've not seen a film in 3D since childhood (House of Wax). I'm not sure how the semi-dark contexts of the film works with 3D, but I'm rather sorry to see IMAX distanced themselves from this format. That would have been cool, Beavis.

[1] It's a big corner.

I'm not sure if 3D would work. I saw a Potter in 3D and found it unwatchable but others liked it. I'm guessing IMax would be an awesome format for this film.

I saw it in 3D, and I don't think it added much. Maybe it did in one scene where a hologram was overlaid over a person, but I'm not sure.

It didn't hurt, either, though.

Very good movie. But not an action film, so don't go in expecting that.

I saw The Force Awakens in Imax 3D and it made some of the space ship models look like the toys that they were. It hurt the movie.

Will I enjoy it as much if I've never seen the original? (Yeah, yeah, I'm culturally deficient, I know.)

Tickets purchased ($28.90 each *ouch*). Sunday 730 show, me, Twil, and SonofV.

STOKED!

I think no, but I saw the original(s) so skewed perspective.

I also would expect not, but don't use that as an excuse not to see it. Don't even use it as an excuse not to see it in theaters; it has the richness of visual detail, and the powerful soundtrack, that justifies a theater viewing.

So, if you can, watch the original (preferably not the theatrical cut, which is the one Amazon streams), then see the new one in a theater. Otherwise, see the new one in theaters, then watch both at home when it's available, to catch what you missed.
