Son Getting Married

orthodoc • Sep 13, 2017 10:42 pm
My oldest son's wedding will take place on Sept. 23. The celebration has so much meaning, anxiety, and hope for me. He has medical issues including autism spectrum disorder, depression and anxiety, occasional psychotic breaks when younger ... bright enough to be selected for gifted schools and programs, to get professional degrees, but always struggling to connect socially ... still so much struggle to get along in the 'regular world' ... he was a member of the cellar for a time ... and he is marrying a good-hearted, charming, loving, family-oriented young woman who considers him, of all the fish in the sea, HER fish ...

Very blessed.

I am always very happy to hear of someone who struggles with mental health issues, especially autism spectrum and trouble connecting socially, being able to find love and find someone whom will be on their side. A safe person to connect with. It warms my heart, honestly. Wishing all the best for your people.

Congrats!

First-world problems, although I can't minimize them because I am not the one affected - but my other autistic son's tux does not fit! Clothing too tight is a disaster for him. The tux arrived late (tuxes were arranged for online, with delivery rather than pickup) and I have a bad feeling about our chance of getting the proper size in time. Hmm. Have to think outside the box on this one. Tomorrow we'll see what can be done.

Thank you for all the good wishes!

That's the script, but the best laid plans of mice and Ortho often go asunder.

Besides, nowhere allows rice anymore. Sometimes it's birdseed or bubbles, most often it's sparklers.
xoxoxoBruce • Oct 14, 2017 9:44 am
And the rice being bad because it makes birds explode is complete bullshit, but once it hit the internet the lie caught fire. I suspect the flames were fanned by the NAJ&C*.

Maybe Ortho is still waiting for the pictures to be developed.
Clodfobble • Oct 14, 2017 9:52 am
The complaint isn't that it's bad for the birds; it's the mess that no one wants to clean up. Most big churches and wedding venues are doing a minimum of three to four weddings a week in the off-season, more than one a day in the spring. That's a lot of rice, and it attracts vermin.
xoxoxoBruce • Oct 14, 2017 10:16 am
That would be no different for birdseed, or the biodegradable confetti, that replaced rice. If the venue supplied some of those starving asian children Mom always harped about, rice wouldn't be a problem. I suppose it's easier to clean up an occasional incinerated body from sparklers setting off fancy dresses.

As for attracting vermin, I doubt anything will keep mother-in-laws away.;)

If they threw opioids there wouldn't be any to sweep up.
