June 26th, 2017: Cold Aged

xoxoxoBruce • Jun 26, 2017 11:41 pm
My mother was always trying to get me to move back to New England by telling me the season were healthier, like PA doesn’t
have seasons. She’d come up with the most ridiculous reasons, like the cold winters make for rosy cheeks and prettier
women who live longer.
Photographer Alexander Khimushin has given me evidence to disprove the cold weather claim.

Young girls...

Image

Over the past 6 months, Khimushin immersed himself in the Siberian landscape, traveling 15,000 miles alone behind the wheel of an SUV to track down, and photograph, the indigenous people of this frozen land. Moving from the shores of Lake Baikal to the coast of the Japan Sea, he visited a variety of ethnic minority tribes, many of whose population is down to several dozen people.

Young women...

Image

Russia recognizes 40 different indigenous peoples living in Siberia, which range from the Evenki, whose population is spread out in different locations thousands of miles apart, to the almost extinct Tazy, whom Khimushin believes to have photographed for the first time ever.

Grown women...

Image

Khimushin notes that most official population estimates are off, tending to skew higher than reality. Facing harsh temperatures and dwindling populations, the Australian photographer captures the pride these people take in their unique cultures.

Old women...

Doesn't look to me like the cold did them any favors.

But are the old ones 50, or 150?

Don't know, maybe they're like the Asian women who are beautiful until 65 then turn into crones overnight, that Lola told me about. :haha:

I wish the photos were labeled with the tribes! Also, when I study the faces of all these women, regardless of age, what I see is people who are comfortable and happy with themselves, their homes, their heritage.

What I truly see is just people.

Go to the link for tribe info.

I think both the young women and the old are quite beautiful and show contentment and strength.
The link opens a site ("flipboard") that doesn't, directing me to a FAQ page that is likewise not available.

Kinda hard to tell when they're freeze dried isn't it.

What? The link goes to the Flipboard section of My Modern Met. The whole story is on that page and for each picture the tribe is noted under it or in the text immediately following. The Ages are not. What are you trying to find out?

Love these. Don't mess with that Shaman.

What am I trying to find out? Sometimes you don't know, so you click "link."
In this case, every page on Flipboard (I finally got the homepage to open) that I go to says it is not compatible with my device.
I think it may require Windows 10.

Firefox/Win7 seems to like it well enough. Doesn't flip, though, scrolls.

Sometimes ya don't know what ya don't know, or what ya need/want to know.

Yes, Chrome and IE-10 in windows 7, work for me.
Scrolling to the bottom of the Flipboard page there is a link, "View on My Modern Met", maybe that will work.

After several days I decided to confront the nasty obstructions that Norton puts in my way every time I try to use Google Chrome. Their program came un-asked for and unwanted (and free) with my Chrome download and they screw with my use of it because I refuse to pay to renew. F*** them.

The parent site (link) to the photos that Bruce posted is impressive and all of the faces and information good to see and get.

Norton sucks, I've had good luck with Malwarebytes.
