In 1939, a group of Shell scientists based in a research laboratory, had a friendly bet to see
who could drive their own car furthest on one gallon of fuel. The winner managed a 49.7 mpg.
In the beginning the only rule was the engine had to have come in the car, anything else was cool.
So they moved from their own personal cars to special pet cars chosen to modify a lot,
but it was still all in fun.

Now it’s open to all comers and 52 pages of rules, even minimum weight of the driver.
