August 23, 2016: Fruit for the Masses

Let's give it a whirl, shall we?

Found this among The Day in Photos on the Voice of America's website. The caption on this image:

People reach for free fruit that Rio Negro producers are giving away in protest, in Plaza de Mayo, Buenos Aires, Argentina. The producers seek to draw attention to their economic crisis by giving away 10 tons of apples and pears, demanding that President Mauricio Macri's policies ensure them greater profit.

That country is in a world of hurt. Must be very depressing.

Argentina seems to go through cycles. I didn't know there were issues there right now...Venezuela and Brazil have been front of center in that part of the world recently.

I haven't seen them demanding Las Malvinas back recently...which is usually a sign that things aren't going well in some way in Argentina.

You know how in the USA everything just petered out and laid stagnant around the last big recession, but then after that first 'bad year' things slowly started heading in a positive direction again and you could at least, sort of, plan things and maybe see some light at the end of the tunnel?

Imagine these S. American places where it just slowly spirals in and down and down and down further for years with no sign of improvement or even any policies or theories of coming improvement. Then whenever things actually do turn positive you know it's probably going to take more than a decade for it to trickle down to the guy/gal on the street.

 :right:   :( :yeldead: :thepain: :thepain2: :mg:
