In Warren Ohio, the Military Order of the Purple Heart, has painted the first purple parking spot reserved for combat wounded veterans.

Herman Breuer, director of the Trumbull County Veteran Services Network, said the parking spots are just another way to honor area veterans for their service.
“For the city to recognize veterans by putting out a parking spot for the combat wounded, you know, combat wounded, they should hold a special place in everyone’s heart,” he said. “They spilled blood for our country.”
Kenneth Lewis, state commander for the Military Order of the Purple Heart, said, as far as he knows, this is the first parking spot of its kind at a government building in the state.
“They’d be proud to park here,” he said. “Fills your heart up.”
Although this is the first purple parking spot designated for combat wounded veterans in the city of Warren, officials say there is more to come. In fact, they will be putting one at every city building.
“We’ll have one at every single building that’s used. So right now, City Hall will have one, the new government services building, the old Gibson building will have one, along with Packard Music Hall,” said Warren Mayor Doug Franklin.
