humble suggestion

BrianR • Apr 16, 2003 2:45 pm
As I read the various forums and threads therein, I cannot help but notice that a common theme keeps popping up...FOOD!

I therefore suggest we create a new forum dealing with food. Recipes, favorite foods, found goodies, regional cuisine etc. I'd even moderate if we need someone who can cook as well as appreciate food.

Seconded!
Cam • Apr 16, 2003 3:44 pm
I'm only for it if Drink is included in the title.

The discussion period begins.

Anyone cooking anything especial for Easter?
juju • Apr 16, 2003 4:52 pm
It doesn't really interest me. I'm such a picky eater that I don't really like anything. But if you guys want it, then have it!

We're having well seasoned pagan on a stick. Coming over around 10, right Patrick. ;)

Food not cooked in quantities to feed thousands. Mmmmm
BrianR • Apr 16, 2003 10:33 pm
Baked Glazed Ham
Smashed seasoned potatoes
Green Beans
Candied Carrots
Fresh Biscuits with whipped butter
Wine TBD

I make MY meals from scratch, except for meats
eg, no instant taters

And yes, since drink is a food, it can be discussed also, like beer and wine, recipes for mixed drinks etc.

Sounds like a good idea. Though I have no Easter plans whatsoever. I am, however, looking for good recipes with eggs as one of the main ingredients...preferably something out of the ordinary. It's a long story. Well, ok, it's not long, but I won't bother boring people with it. ;)

"Oh I wish I was an Oscar Meyer Pagan
That is what I'd truly like to be...
'Cause if I was an Oscar Meyer Pagan
Cellar Dwellars would be eating me!"

I decided to cook a pork loin rib roast with an apple-pecan cornbread stuffing. I think the females will accompany it with some cheesy double-bakers and asparagus, possibly with a loaf of homemade bread. And no sour grapes for me -- I'll stick with a beer.

My Easter Repast:
3 McChickens (Mmmm, highly prcessed chicken-like product)
1 Large Fry (from Wendy's, MickyD's fries suck since they changed oil)
1 Coke to drink (from a two liter, here at the house)
Ah yes, I plan to spluge for the holiday.

We're going basic Louisiana:
Red beans and rice (with ham hock and andouille)
Something green
Abita beer
Crusty bread
Something fruity sweet.
Aided by Prof. Longhair, Irma Thomas, Meters, Smiley Lewis.

I've lived all over Louisiana. God, red beans and rice sounds good. It's been way to long since I've had proper red beans and rice. Crusty bread, the stuff you could club somebody with. That stuff rocks. Suddenly the McChickens sound inadequate.

Good and cheap and easy. Makes a big batch! Come on by!

This could be a new section.

Hey, it wasn't me that suggested Pagan cannibalism, but I do try to make the best of things.

As long as I get to be selective about the guest list, I think I'd make a damn fine entree!

C: Listen...chaps...there's still a chance. I'm...done for, I've...got a gamy leg and I'm going fast; I'll never get through. But...some of you might. So...you'd better eat me.
?: Eat you, sir?
C: Yes. Eat me.
?: Iiuuhh! With a gamy leg?
C: You needn't eat the leg, Thompson. There's still plenty of good meat. Look at that arm.
5: It's not just the leg, sir.
C: What do you mean?
5: Well, sir...it's just that -
C: Why don't you want to eat me?

So ... it turns out that I will be working on easter, 8a-4p. This is a non-holiday for my hospital, so it's straight time. (well, not really, since I'm not getting a bonus day off, so it will be paid out as time and a half, but not doubled as it would be if it were an OT shift on an actual holiday ...)

so, rambling aside ... it's very likely that easter dinner will be whatever looks good at Appleby's.
Undertoad • Apr 17, 2003 5:08 pm
OMG, the "should we have a food section" discussion thread was hijacked into a "what are we going to eat" thread!
blowmeetheclown • Apr 17, 2003 5:28 pm
LOLLOL! WTF, ROTFL!!1
BrianR • Apr 17, 2003 7:45 pm
We NEED a food forum...hosted by me, or some other poor schmuck we grab from the userlist at random...

We can't seem to go two days without food related posts - see the Cities/anything threads.

I'm just ITCHING to restart the cheesesteak discussion!

BrianR calls for a vote!

Yar!
wolf • Apr 18, 2003 1:28 am
I vote for additional chocolate and jellybeans.

Oh, wait, I guess that's not what we were voting on (*chew* *slurp*)

Okay, yah, food forum would be good ...

Undertoad • Apr 18, 2003 11:28 am
It is done.
Whit • Apr 19, 2003 7:40 pm
I know this thread is effectivly dead, but I just had to say that I love UT's pronouncement on it.
     "It is done."
Oh yeah, I hope you put on proper billowing robes with a lot of backlighting before you posted that. :D
