Inspire Me

Elspode • Mar 15, 2016 7:04 pm
I tend to write about things that either slap me upside the head out of nowhere, or things that other people have opinions about, and subsequently solicit my opinion thereof.

I've done shit for writing anything lately, even self serving, masturbatory self gratifying writing.

Someone...anyone...throw me a suggestion...the gears are kinda bound up, ruined by the near instant gratification of Facebook.

I need something to write about. Not a novel. Not a paragraph. But a worthy topic.

Fuck...even asking this is narcissistic as Hell, isn't it?

what is the most important element of a song? The hook? the lyrics? the bass line? the drums? the composition, arrangement, structure? The melody?

write about whom/what a person should not be able to marry

A parent allowing their child to become their own adult self, would be an expoundable topic.

It's something you've done, and know, no?

Inspiration or motivation?

I find a lot of things inspirational (what a great song! maybe someday I could write just a *good* song?) but can never find the motivation (that's a lot of work, and a lot of skills to gain, for no money, and nobody will give a shit, so why bother).

That right there is just plain wrong, and you know it. You will give a shit. And your friends will give a shit (if you let them).
Whether that's motivation enough or not, I cannot say ...

The motivation is avoiding the tearing your hair out while wailing why didn't I do it sooner.

Sorry, I'm all about the fiction.
I want to write about the way a child sees the world in dangerous, threatening and unreal terms.
So the slanting light through the shutters makes tigers on the floor, Daddy's dressing gown with a dragon on the back is a real dragon, the noise the water makes as the tub empties is a voice calling children to come down into the drain (a personal childhood fear - one which I'm sure inspired Stephen King).

Write about Donald Trump.
He's enough to scare an adult or a child.
Write about how America as it exists now was built on immigration and this man seems to want to freeze it the way it is now, because immigration apparently no longer works.
Ask why he wants to make America great "again", as if it's not great already. And if you think it isn't, write about why.

Yeah, that's politics. But hey - you didn't specify. And politics is personal opinion writ large.

UT nailed it imo. Motivation is lacking. This thread was just procrastination and a way of passing the buck.

Wow. That is an *amazing* amount of awesome ideas.

Now...how to pick one?

Fuck. I may now have a bigger dilemma than I had before I asked.
