Does that earn you double points in the event?
My mind goes blank when I try to come up with names, any names, especially names of pop/rock musicians or actors. So here's what I put together eventually, in no particular order:
Roger Moore
Helmut Kohl
Valéry Giscard d'Estaing
Juan Carlos I of Spain
Mikhail Gorbachev
Chuck Yeager
Danielle Darrieux
Duchess of Kent
Bernie Ecclestone
Honor Blackman
.
1. Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi
2. Abu Ala al-Afri
3. Abu Muslim al-Turkmani
4. Abul Mughirah al Qahtani
5. Abu Suleiman al-Naser
6. Abu al-Baraa el-Azdi
7. Abu Ali al Anbari
8. Abu Mohammad al-Adnani
9. Abu Omar al-Shishani
10. Courtney Love
I've never heard of any of those
It's not right, and I withdraw the entry.
I think Toad was playing Trumps?
I've got my WMP playlist blaring in my ears to drown out my own misery, so mine will be musicians!
1. Ozzy is back on drugs/booze last I heard.
2. HOW did Keith Richards outlive Lemmy???
3. Ditto Steven Tyler
4. Ditto Mick Jagger
5. John Mellencamp. Last I knew he was tangled up with Dennis Quaid's ex, and Dennis STILL looks rode hard and put away wet after that debacle.
6. Alice Cooper is turning 68 next month AND I HAD BETTER BE WRONG INCLUDING HIM. One of the few rock-n-roll showmen we have left.
7. Geoff Tate from Queensryche. He apparently has Seattle-itis (aka Rain Rot) of the brain and not only became a wine snob in time for the first time I got to see them, he went nuts in Brazil somewhere on the 30th anniversary tour and was fired for pulling a weapon on the rest of the band.
8. Lou Gramm from Foreigner. The brain tumor may have been benign, but I'd bet his stroke risk is astronomical.
9. Speaking of astronomical, Dr. Brian May, formerly the guitarist for Queen and currently one of the most respected astrophysicists we have. That gorgeous stereoptic image of Pluto from last year? He did the processing.
10. Can I just include ALL of the 1985 Motley Crue lineup? Or is Nikki dq'd for having been dead already?
10b. If the Crue inclusive is not viable, I'm going with Nick Rhodes from Duran Duran. I looked up all 5 of the "classic" lineup, and Rhodes looks like he got hit by a bus.
Dangit, and there's no room for Jimmi Page. Personally, I still want to see that tyrannical little former (?) heroin junkie dipped in brown gravy and tossed into a room full of rabid wolverines high on crack!
Hey, Page--FIRST, you do NOT sell the riff from "Kashmir". SECOND, you do NOT sell it to Puff Daddy. THIRD, you do not sell it to Puff Daddy for the soundtrack to that abomination of a Godzilla movie with the Jay Leno Lizard!!! (Technically, that design is referred to in Godzilla canon as Zilla, but many fans call him GINO--Godzilla In Name Only.)
1) OJ Simpson
2) Phil Donahue
3) Amanda Bynes
4) Rush Limbaugh
5) Ed Ames
6) Andy Dick
7) Dick Cheney
8) Olivia de Havilland
9) Teri Garr
10) Glen Campbell
1. Lamar Odom
(to be continued)
I think I won last year, so I'll come out of semi-hiding to play again this year. I need to go read the Enquirer and see who's on death's door.
I'll get back to you.
Looks like all of us missed David Bowie as well as actor Angus "The Tall Man From Phantasm" Scrimm...
1 Mary Kate Olson
2 Joe Namath
3 Dick Cheney
4 Charlie Manson
5 George H. W. Bush
6 fidel castro
7 gordie howe
8 za za gabor
9 michael keaton
10 Chris Christie
staying pat
Here's my list for 2016:
1-10. Musicians and entertainers between the ages of 65 and 70.
Have to check out last year's list and do something different. The current trend can't hold (surely); some other category than beloved musicians and entertainers has to start dying off.
I haven't participated in a few years
1. Chuck Berry
2. Jerry Lee Lewis
3. Grace Slick
4. Smokey Robinson
5. David Crosby
6. Neil Diamond
7. Roger Waters
8. Boz Scaggs
9. Bob Seger
10. Lionel Richie
I just picked names off a list of old musicians
Looks like all of us missed David Bowie
I had Bowie... in 2012. I heard things. I forgot though and didn't pick him since. I won that year with Whitney. Morbidity was on my mind in 2011
Orthodoc, the actor who played Grizzly Adams recently died of spinal cancer (OWWWWW!!!!) so maybe an actor/actress list would suit? My other suggestion is look up major scientific achievers--Buzz Aldrin just turned 86...
And, while it happened a LONG time ago, I know of one man who left a HUGE mark on our space program who died in 1997--the unfortunate prodigal rocket scientist whose failure to use the Shift key correctly sent the Mars radar-mapping probe millions of miles off course. When I knew him he was the single most bitter human being I'd ever met, along with being smart enough to read Scientific American cover to cover. I know these things because my mom was fairly briefly married to him!
glatt, you better be wrong about one of your choices! I've been listening to Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band since I was about 6 and have NEVER forgiven Sellout-ica for covering "Turn The Page". ;)

2. Jerry Lee Lewis
3. Grace Slick
4. Smokey Robinson
5. David Crosby
6. Neil Diamond
7. Roger Waters

9. Bob Seger

See? That's what I'm talking about.
I think I won last year.
But I still haven't seen off Zsa Zsa (nothing personal, but die, bitch).
Points! Rob Ford!
hard to celebrate seeing as it was from cancer at 46.
....I was kind of thinking crack overdose in a whorehouse when I stuck him on there..... :/
karma's a bitch
Karma and kancer ain't related. If they were, I'd been long gone and good folks would not be. But you know that. Karma is more of a sneaky evil liar.
"If I knew you were karma I'd've baked a cake..."
I was thinking more karma biting me in the ass for besmirching his reformed character ;) Now how in the hell are the rest of my list clinging on? fer fucksake!
You are good folks, Shaw. I'll just assume you say that fot the sake of the joke. If karma were kancer, my counter part at work would be stage 9.
Creep was digging into a sales managers past today and found some dirt about him owing back child support, and wanted to show it to me..
No thanks. People have struggles. Dude means well, he's just not on our level yet. He is a pain sometimes with the mistakes he makes, but he doesn't deserve that kind of humiliation. And he just ate lunch with him today. Guy must have made some comment that prompted the data mining. Back stabbing cunt.
I can't judge why some people get it all and some get nothing but spoon-fed shit. And I'm the girl helping alleged criminals get representation. But I get angry just like anyone, wondering why I can't just lay down and get help handed to me. I'm not good folks. Not even close. I'm tired and crazy but I somehow get through each day. Who figured? Then I feel badly for not being or feeling worse.
Lova ya jim, BTW. :)
And I love me some monster. She's my girl.
You are too good folk. I've seen you take the sympathetic and empathetic stance on too many issues for you to try to convince me otherwise. You defennded JBKlyde when he was acting out, you've gotten my back more than one time as well.
This medium that we all live with each other in has the unique feature of being founded only in the intellectual realm. You're open and honest and imperfect. But your heart has always been in the right place. You've been mean, and you've occasionally acted a little crazy, sure... But it's real. It's honest. Frustration and despair may belabor you at times, but you fight. I love you too. You're as good or better than any of us. Integral and valuable to this forum. Love yourself. You deserve it.
That's pretty much the nicest and most honest of things that's been said about me lately.
I took some vacation days, too much time to think if I'm honest, but thanks jim.
I'm feeling much better now. ;) movies quote.

What was that about hats again?

Damn. I scored.
Gordie Howe at 88.
17 points.
When someone scores, do they get to add another to their list?
When someone scores, do they get to add another to their list?
No
Because, CDP since 2005 and that's never been the rule...so...no.
http://cellar.org/search.php?searchid=7018058Also 23 for Gordie I think. While I'm at it
I didn't think so, but thought I saw where that happened ... thanks.
footsie may have tried it
you only get to do that if one dies before the year starts, but then you don't get points
Yeah, I thought you were trying a tactic, in the key of foot3. :)
I guess that's what I remember mis-remembering. tx
So we're 3/4 of the way through the year and we've only polished off 4 between us? Or did we miss some?
Ford
Howe
Ali
Haggerd
Yeah. I had him
Fidel I mean
yup. These are the first "good points" I can remember.
Anyone have
Zsa Zsa Gabor this year? I know she's made frequent appearances in the past...
#1 on my list -post #1 in the thread.
Wow, that's four of my ten. I had the same list as last year because I scored a big fat zero. Guess I was just ahead of my time!
Zero for me. Maybe I'll spend ten years getting really good at it, get first place, and then brag about how I never even watch TMZ.
ah, thanks. still don't get it, but at least now I know I wasn't supposed to

Clod doesn't watch football, but has participated in fantasy for 10? years. The first several years, she chose players with funny names and lost miserably. Then in recent years, she started paying attention to statistics and is creaming the rest of us. She still doesn't watch football.
Treefae is the same way. She cared not a whit for football until we got together. She joined my FF league shortly after, and has never finished worse than 3rd out of ten, and is destroying the rest of us this season.

har -I did exactly the same in Brit Fantasy Football (Soccer) on my old Brit Expat board
Kind of related:
Have more celebs died in 2016 than previous years?
Yes, if you count the use of pre-prepared obits by the press.
But.... there are more celebs and more preprepared obits...... the graph does seem to indicate a significant increase though.
Colonel Potter from MASH aka Harry Morgan at 96.
Oh well, he's still dead... I think. ;)
I didn't know we could put dead people on our dead pool list.
But, then again, I'm a fucking idiot, what do I know?
He didn't put on his list, that would be cheating, but putting it in the thread of dead celebs by mistake does no harm, and allows others to point and mock him. :mock:
So if nobody on my list dies in the next...like 4 1/2 days...do I just roll my list over, or am I required to make a new one?
...also, nobody ever told me whether Nikki Sixx is dq'd due to having already been dead once.
You have to make a new one, but it can be exactly the same as your old one. ;)
The light of Carrie Fisher just extinguished.
Not on anyone's list, I think
Not on anyone's list, I think
wrong. Clodfobble had her. Of course. She watches all that TMZ..... 51 points, I think
OK, gotta admit my research was a bit sketchy ('cos I got bored so stopped looking up the ones I was pretty sure were stil alive), but so far..........I counted:
1) monster 135 points (castro, gabor, ali, ford)
2) Sundae 91 points (castro, gabor, crowe) (I did enough research to find Crowe was a goner)
3) lumberjim 58 points (castro, ali)
4) spexx 56 points (castro, gabor, howe)
5) clodfobble 51 points (fisher)
6) Grav 32 points (haggard)
7) Classic 21 points (castro)
regards, grim reaper's mistress
That's funny--looking back at the list, I had no reason to think Fisher would die, I was just determined to create a list of all-female celebs.
The light of Carrie Fisher just extinguished.
Classic gets a current one!!:lol2:
I had Ali also, and if Jerry Lewis goes this year I get double - I had him TWICE!
oops....... sorry, classic
1) monster 135 points (castro, gabor, ali, ford)
2) Sundae 91 points (castro, gabor, crowe) (I did enough research to find Crowe was a goner)
3=) classic 58 points (castro, ali)
3=) lumberjim 58 points (castro, ali)
5) spexx 56 points (castro, gabor, howe)
6) clodfobble 51 points (fisher)
7) Grav 32 points (haggard)
As long as I'm ahead of Jim, even alphabetically, we're good. ;)
