Refugees: Syrian Mother and Child

Mum was watching the news and saw a report about Syrian refugees, and there was a young mum with her child wrapped up in a blanket, held close. The image stayed with her and she ended up dreaming about them. The next morning she drew her interpretation of that image.

Damn, that's really, really good. She's extremely talented, or I should say accomplished. Wow. :thumb2:

Moving and thought provoking. Unfortunately, less than a quarter of the refugees are Syrian refugees. So many seem to be from other countries seeking economic opportunities.

That's beautiful, Dani

That is beautiful. Was this out of the blue or is it a hobby of hers? What is the medium?

How many, what %, depends on the time frame. The Brit tabloids make that claim based on April/May/June arrivals before the Syrian influx starting in July. Does it matter which war torn country they are escaping from? Economic opportunity? You make it sound like they quit their $2 a day job to come here and be rich by working at walmart. When years of drought have made food scarce and ducking bullets hard to forage, I guess the chance to earn money and use it to feed the family could be called economic opportunity.

She's always liked drawing, but about 3 or 4 years ago she started getting into it more seriously. She took a few beginner level evening classes a couple of years ago, but mostly is self-taught. That one was done in charcoal. She's also into painting, pastels and pencil sketching.
