The same happened all over the world with indigenous people. In England's memory it was Maori (New Zealand) and Aboriginal (Australian) children who needed to be taken into good, clean, white houses to be all civilised up and learn how not to respect the land.
Not that there was a colour-bar on deciding what children had to have done to them. Even the working poor could have their children shipped off for an unasked for jaunt to Australia/ NZ/ Canada/ South Africa (the so called "Home Children").
Facing a horrendously long sea voyage, to be greeted by strangers and kiddie-fiddlers and worked half to death. No, of course that wasn't the case for every little emigree, but talk about your disposable culture - we had plenty of kids to give away back then. In todays sensibilities it seems barbaric, but to be fair, what were they to do with these kids? The entire band of Chiricahua Apaches were imprisoned in Florida, should they lock up the kids too? I'm sure the Carlisle School sounded like a God send to the people who had to find a solution.
Plus it had been a long bloody struggle between the Indians and Settlers, and this marked the end. But much like the Israelis and Palestinians the butt hurt was deep. I'm sure the do gooders thought civilizing these kids would prevent future problems for the Indians and for themselves. I think it's remarkable the whole band wasn't exterminated.

Not entirely sure of Bruce's tone for this whole post. I'm not sure if it's intended to be humor (I hope it is), but, to reduce what white people did to Native Americans to "butthurt" is an insensitivity of historical proportions.
You seem to forget the Indians did some pretty horrific things themselves, even to each other, but after 300 years they were out-numbered, out-scienced, and out-gunned, in the end. Had it been the other way around, the men/old women would have been killed, and the young women/children taken as slaves.
Butt hurt is not what was done by the Indians/Settlers/Israelis/Palestinians, it's the resulting animosity/resentment/hate, generations later.

The question is, the area was called Lenapehoking by whom? Your link says by the Lenape because they considered the tribes in that area bros. However when the Lenape bitched about the deal with Willy Penn, they appealed to the Iroquois confederacy who claimed hegemony over most of that area, including where you live.
Two problems. One ~ the confusion between what the natives called themselves, what other tribes called them, and what Europeans called them. Two ~ the Indian culture was not land ownership as we know it, but the right to hunt/fish/gather and temporarily camp in the area, meaning fuzzy boundaries.
The author of the projected 2015 map assumes by now the boundaries would be firm like we know it. He chose Powhatan, as they were the most powerful tribe on the eastern seaboard, and projected the area would be consolidated under their name. But who knows, it could be Zapataland
