Another jaunt

limey • May 1, 2015 6:24 pm
Mr Limey and I are off from one end of Britain to another in search of another 1930s hotel experience.
Tonight we are on the sleeper train from Glasgow to London. We left home far too early as there are problems with the ferry service and we wanted to be sure if catching our train.
The sleeper cabin is tiny: about four feet by 6'6" by eight feet. Upper and lower bunks about 2 feet wide equipped with clean linen, a wash basin and that's it. I'll try to remember to take a pic in the morning.

I hope you and Mr [strike]Bond[/strike] Limey have a great time and find the desired noir experience.
Don't you suppose a word to M would straighten out those ferry rascals? ;)

We have stepped back in time.

Where we'll order a martini later.

We'll sit by the fountain and drink it.
Before retiring to our suite.

We're staying at Burgh Island Hotel. A totally art deco 1930s building, inside and out. It is fantastic.
Image
It's reached by a tidal causeway. We're now cut off.

Is it still a compliment when someone envies you so much they want to vomit?
I'm trying to channel Sophia Loren this weekend. I wanted The Great Gatsby but my knockers won't cooperate. You've found it.

Wish the weather was better for you, but amazeballs all the same, you both deserve it.
Griff • May 2, 2015 12:01 pm
That's just super!
limey • May 2, 2015 12:08 pm
You have no idea. It's totally amazeballs! Tonight we have live music appropriate to the era. Evening gowns and black tie. All the rooms are full of wonderful 1930s furniture.

Moar photos darling. Please.
I'm going to bore my brother to death tomorrow getting a photo I approve of in my Loren frock. But you and Mr Limes can just catch the light and shine.

OR IT DIDN'T HAPPEN.

Hmmm. Funny how sinister that sounds now I know the Doctor.

OMG Limes. I love you and all, but I never thought you could look more delicious than the food.

You do.

The island this hotel is on is tiny. We made it up to the top yesterday.
Today we did it again by a different route. Here are some views of the building.

This is how you get across when the causeway is under water.

Awesome pics and reportage, Limes, as per.

As an aside - I keep reading the thread title as 'Another Joint'.

I wish I could treat you to a bottle of champagne (or your choice) for sharing this fantastic journey. As a matter of fact, get it, PM me, and I'll reimburse you.

Sorry I'm just catching up to this thread. It's an amazing location!

Do you see any evidence of utilities connecting this palace to the mainland? Cables? Plumbing?
limey • May 4, 2015 10:21 am
Must be under ground or under the causeway.

"Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!" Limey's Bear. :haha:

Cheers Bruce! Thanks for the cocktails in post 38 [emoji483] [emoji485]
