Another jaunt

Mr Limey and I are off from one end of Britain to another in search of another 1930s hotel experience.
Tonight we are on the sleeper train from Glasgow to London. We left home far too early as there are problems with the ferry service and we wanted to be sure if catching our train.
The sleeper cabin is tiny: about four feet by 6'6" by eight feet. Upper and lower bunks about 2 feet wide equipped with clean linen, a wash basin and that's it. I'll try to remember to take a pic in the morning.

We're staying at Burgh Island Hotel. A totally art deco 1930s building, inside and out. It is fantastic.

It's reached by a tidal causeway. We're now cut off.

Is it still a compliment when someone envies you so much they want to vomit?
I'm trying to channel Sophia Loren this weekend. I wanted The Great Gatsby but my knockers won't cooperate. You've found it.

Wish the weather was better for you, but amazeballs all the same, you both deserve it.

You have no idea. It's totally amazeballs! Tonight we have live music appropriate to the era. Evening gowns and black tie. All the rooms are full of wonderful 1930s furniture.

The island this hotel is on is tiny. We made it up to the top yesterday.

Dinner.
My starter was cheese tart. Mr Limey had duck.


My main course was silver mullet, mussels, cockles and a langoustine in a tomato bisque. Mr L had chicken.

I was assured the lemon tart was really tart so I chose that for dessert. It was.

I wish I could treat you to a bottle of champagne (or your choice) for sharing this fantastic journey. As a matter of fact, get it, PM me, and I'll reimburse you.

Breakfast is in the Ganges Room (well, it wouldn't do to have it in the ballroom, would it?!).


I had smoked trout kedgeree today (we both had this yesterday).

Sorry I'm just catching up to this thread. It's an amazing location!

Do you see any evidence of utilities connecting this palace to the mainland? Cables? Plumbing?
