Blessed are the poor in wealth...

...for Saint Mary's Cathedral in San Francisco will baptize you nightly...at least, until last night.

From the Washington Post: In order to prevent homeless people from sleeping outside of Saint Mary’s Cathedral, the Archdiocese of San Francisco installed a system that dumps water onto the ground near its sheltered doorways, where people tend to rest at night.

On Wednesday, after facing substantial backlash for the deterrent, the archdiocese announced that the system will be removed "by the end of the day."

Having been raised Catholic, this situation bothers me on two levels.

While we know how hypocritical the Church can be, we know what the Church has taught us. And there are some great Catholic charities out there.

The other thing is that we have a pope that is as close as we've had to an example of true Christianity in forever. And you have servants still unwilling to follow his lead.

Of all the teaching methods, the two most popular are instruction, and by example. Mixed messages are confusing, and often cancel.

I've heard a lot of excuse making over the years when the Church fails to meet its obligation to people.

A lot of people are hypocrites, especially those "I'm Holier than thou" religious people. I really dislike hypocrites. 😠

Um, good to see you again Tulip?

Bit of a surprise to see you back, it's almost like you never left.

Not that it should get past the moral issue of hassling the homeless, but they also picked a method that wastes water during a water crisis.

Wonder if it was holy water? Maybe they were really blessing the homeless.

They should just put up a fence. That would get the job done and not cause nearly as much drama.

And not nearly as cruel.

Are those not the people who most need a bath?

Bath houses are now suing the church for unfair market competitiion. They have accused the church of dumping.
