March 13th, 2015: Big Shiny Truck

If you're ever in need of a full-sized replica of a big truck with twenty two people and rearview mirrors which play videos of traffic in London, Mumbai and Dubai, you're in luck. Valay Shende can, and has, whipped one up by welding pieces of stainless steel together in only 18 months.

Haven't been able to find out how many pieces of stainless but it's a lot.

Colossal says,
Shende conceived of Transit as commentary on a dramatic rash of farmer suicides in India over the last decade.

Considering it's stainless and huge, I wonder what it weighs, and what kind of underpinnings it has... but that's just because I'm weird.

Making that truck took some balls.

I'm weird, too, then. That was the first thing I thought of.

...And no small amount of talent.

I looks like it's made of solid ball bearings, but really he works with disks that are a lot like bottle caps. So you should thing of this in terms of bottle caps.

Here's a close up of another work he did.

The link says the shiny discs are spot-welded together. They aren't, they're TIG welded, but I doubt many people slumming the art gallery know, or care. Likely just us weirdos, right Digr? :haha:

TIG snobs.
