Oh, please, please let this happen!

Of all the revelations at this year's Comic-Con, perhaps the most intriguing was Sam Raimi's confirmation that both he and his long-time collaborator (and brother) Ivan are beavering away on a TV adaptation of The Evil Dead. While a tentative cause for geeky celebration in itself, the news that Bruce Campbell, who played Ash Williams in the original, will also be involved means that gore fans globe-wide are now dribbling into their laps

Bring back Ash!

It will only work if Campbell is a big part of it.

Put Ash front and centre

TED:TV could do a Fargo, sewing new characters on to the tapestry already laid out by the films, but much of the original trilogy's appeal lay in Campbell's increasingly maniacal tongue-in-cheekery. Attempting to replicate this with other actors would be, at best, a let-down, and, at worst, the single biggest affront to mankind in the history of the observable universe. Campbell teased on Twitter that he will be the star of the show, so hopes are high.

!!!

The rest of the article is well worth reading :p

Well, I've been checking the news snippets and saw the Comic Con panel and I am pretty fucking pysched for Ash v. Evil Dead.

Man, I knew those movies inside out. Even saw the original short film that the first Evil Dead movie was based on. For a while I was very into horror movies - schlocky, or weird, or rare - I loved 'em all (except slasher films, I was never into those). the Evil Dead films were amongst my favourites.

It looks like they've kept the same sensibilities.

Groovy.

Fuck Yeeeaaaah!

Great movies...can be a great series if the makers don't stray too far from 'hapless, but competent, man fights incarnated Evil'.

It is kind of a shame though that they felt they had to cast Mitt Romney's stunt double as the hapless guy with a gun.

Oh babba.
Remember what we thought when Lucas said he was making Episode I?
We got The Phantom Menace.

Prequels, sequels, remakes.
Leave well enough alone.
Or you get Jar Jar Binks and Nicholas Cage punching women off bicycles.

Bruce Campbell is starring. He could make a show starring Mini-me from Austin Powers as Napoleon good! He could make a show about Elvis fighting a mummy good!

This.

And not just Campbell, but the whole team: Campbell, Tapert and the Raimis.

For Star Wars to work it had to be epic - for this to work it has to be fun. All they have to do is stay true to the sensibility of the original films. With Star Wars, Lucas got to do whatever he wanted - nobody to rein him in and say, George, dude, wtf? The entire endeavour serviced one man's vision - and it just wasn't as good as the vision he'd had when he was younger and the world of cinema simpler.

The Evil Dead team have sensibly brought in a showrunner.

This will be different from the original films - because we're dropping in on Ash some 30 years later, and because it's a a series of 10 half hour episodes, but it should be fun.

Having watched the Comic Con panel, I am dying to see their new blood kegger effects in action.

Do you drive a Delta 88?
henry quirk • Sep 27, 2015 1:26 pm
I wish, but I only got one good eye, meaning I got no depth perception, meaning I only drive small, boxy, cars like the '05 Ford Focus (with the crumpled hood) I tool around in now.

I, however, only need one good eye to aim my Stoeger, so... :)

I might just have to rewatch the trilogy this week. I am beyond excited about this.

Cool interview with Campbell:

I was a little young to really get into Evil Dead when it first came out. I saw it I think when I was about 14 or so, but it didn't really get me until the early 90s when I got mad into horror and watched the whole trilogy. And fell just a little bit in love with Campbell.

K, I'm on a roll... just some random Campbell goodness.

It's Halloween. Episode one is already up on the streaming site. I have a fairly large smoke sitting ready in the ashtray, a steaming mug of tea and a bag of midget gems. I'm good to go.
