Tone Deaf?

xoxoxoBruce • Apr 18, 2014 10:51 am
This test will tell you if you're tone deaf of not.

Much to my amazement, they say I'm not.
Scored 97% even with two, pushing the wrong button while I knew it was the wrong button. :smack:

100%

I'm a musician so I hope so, I expect I would get worse results on visual things like color tests. But this is one of those things that show we don't all perceive the world the same way. It's fascinating and I hope y'all post results even if you don't get 100%.
glatt • Apr 18, 2014 11:37 am
97% but that's only because I accidentally clicked the wrong button once and knew it but couldn't go back. I should be 100%.

100% despite my musical preferences. Considering how loud my tinnitus is right now, I'm pleased.

Bruce, thanks for posting this. Ima have Popdigr take the test, his hearing is awful, and getting worse. Hearing loss runs in his family as the miles rack up, plus, he worked in a metal stamping operation all his adult life (39 yrs), and unfortunately, there wasn't a damn given about employees' hearing until the mid-seventies. He gets a double dose of hearing loss.

You should be in the room when he and his mother (96 yo, God bless her, can't hear shit, but, healthy as a horse, otherwise, and takes no regular meds!) try to have a conversation. It's hilarious sometimes.

I got two wrong on the last part because I clicked the wrong button accidentally. I had a harder time with the plucked string part and expected I might make a mistake, but I got all those right.

Here's a color challenge:

Phew.
Gravdigr • Apr 18, 2014 12:30 pm
For whatever reason, I found the color test a bit difficult.

94%, 34/36 Considering that I have tinitas really bad, I was very pleased to learn that.
Sundae • Apr 18, 2014 3:16 pm
On the colour grading I had a score of 15.
I knew I would not be perfect - found it really quite hard.
Carruthers • Apr 18, 2014 3:16 pm
It's several minutes since I completed the test and I'm still scratching my head trying to work out how I scored 100%.

Another of life's little mysteries...

It may not be a good indication of his hearing because I passed and my hearing is shit. Heavy ring-a-ding like Griff, large holes in the curve, and 2 hearing aids.

They tried to sell me $7000 (each) hearing aids, but I told them about this non-sunshiny place to stick them. Then they said after reconsidering the amount of damage I have, the $7g aids would be a waste, and I could buy the $4000 aids. I didn't get a chance to answer because I was way out in the parking lot before I could stop laughing. So I ended up with the $1000 aids, good enough for living alone with complete control of remotes, but not Russell Crowe's mumbling..

I often just forgo frustrating conversations and tell 'em to get off my lawn. ;)

This might be more gooder for popdigr.

I got a 15 on the color test, which was better than I was expecting. But I would think surely the quality of your computer monitor would affect the outcome?
infinite monkey • Apr 18, 2014 5:42 pm
I got a 100 percent on the tone deaf quiz. It seemed pretty easy, and I'm no musician (though I was married to one on TV.) I didn't even attempt the color test. I'd probably fail miserably. I may try it at another time.

I agree Clod, color settings on your personal monitor could affect the outcome.
Aliantha • Apr 18, 2014 6:02 pm
I got a 12.

I don't know if monitor colour would make much difference because the test is designed to find out how you identify different hues, so as long as the colour on your screen is constant, I would assume the test would be reasonably accurate because I don't think slight variations in actual colour would make much difference.
xoxoxoBruce • Apr 18, 2014 6:08 pm
I'd done that color test before, aced that fucker. I should think as long as the monitor color doesn't shift while you're doing it you should be OK.

I'm not tone deaf, not surprising since I play the piano, and I tune it,

My wife took both tests and got 100% on the tone deaf test, and a 28 on the color test. She also pointed out that Pantone, (of the color test) produces a matching system for mixing printing ink colors. In the trade it's called PMS colors.

Is this test legitimate?

Final score: 34/36 = 94%

Congratulations, you are not tone deaf!

Given the structure of the test itself, any score other than 100% would mean you actually are tone deaf, or you made a few mistakes and clicked the wrong button.
Lola Bunny • Apr 20, 2014 9:08 pm
Yeah, two of my answers were clicked wrong. :-P

It turns out this was a test of click accuracy.

that color one was tiring
glatt • Apr 21, 2014 8:33 am
I thought I would do well in the color one, because I'm very visual.

There were some pretty low notes. I did the test with my phone, and the vibration was more telling than the sound
CaylaEET • Oct 30, 2014 10:03 pm
For those of you who took the tone deaf test, the makers of that TDT have put out a new app called SingTrue. It's the next natural step in learning to sing and assure you that 100%. It's now available in the app store.

Color test was harder, and I got bored/frustrated/tired of the blue/green section. My results reflect my difficulties.
