Quiz Time

xoxoxoBruce • Apr 17, 2014 4:17 pm
This quiz determines where you would fall in the Dewey Decimal System... if you were a book. I had trouble answering some of the questions because the choices(multiple choice) weren't always right, but I'm not a book either. :D

I'm in the 500's if you need me.
Carruthers • Apr 17, 2014 4:42 pm
You got 500's - Natural Sciences! Every morning you check the weather forecast to make sure you're dressed appropriately. You love animals and truly care about their well-being. Space is a mysterious thing to you and you love reading articles about new planets and advances in space. You love plants and enjoy having a few around your house. You are truly a fan of nature and everything it entails!

Move up, Bruce. There's space needed for another volume on that shelf.:)

BTW, you'll recognise me. I'm the Morocco bound one with the gold leaf edges.
Gravdigr • Apr 17, 2014 6:23 pm
Always room for one more...

I also got 500s - Natural Sciences. I'll be the tome that smells of cheap cigars and Wild Turkey.

Just so we know it's not all 500s, Momdigr got 300s, Social Sciences.

You enjoy learning about historical events - anything related to wars, catastrophes, civilizations, presidents, you name it, history is your thing!

Same as glatt, per usual.

You got the 000's - Generalities! You have a passion for general knowledge and information. You love locating information in books, reference works, and on the computer. You also enjoy keeping up to date with current events. Let's face it, information is your life! And you love it!

When it came to music, I picked the one I was familiar with, but my actual choice in music wasn't there.
This is more to my tastes.

Having a steady and well paying job is extremely important to you and you work hard to save money for future endeavors. Unfortunately the label "Good Music" is somewhat in error, possibly 'good noise' for the tone deaf. The music I would post would not 'fit' on that thread.

The sad part is that there are some talented people who "could" play music, but they have chosen to produce noise instead.

You checked off 12 out of 100 on this list!

Casual Catholic! You were probably raised Catholic and grew up going to church, though you may not completely identify with the religion in your every day life. You probably still carry the lessons you learned as a kid close to your heart, even if you only go to church on the major holidays.

It's kind of amazing how we've been doing this Cellar thing for so many years, you can remember something somebody said almost a decade ago and find it to use.

I sometimes wish we had this ability in real life, but it would probably be used against me more than I would use it.

It's hard for me, only 23 out of 36, of the small, B&W, poor resolution photos, but I found I did better with first impressions than trying to think about them.

34 of 36, but I couldn't believe I was getting one after another correct, because I often wasn't sure. So I deliberately answered one wrong, just to see if I could. So it should be 35/36. I'm surprised I did so well, because I often don't get people.

In a related quiz, it was determined that foot's answers show him to be from around 1825.

Fort Wayne IN, Rockford IL, and Toledo OH. Yep. Fort Wayne and Toledo because I say 'pop' and Rockford because I pronounce cot and caught differently? Who doesn't pronounce those words differently?

My least similars were all around Boston. Hard to see because the map didn't load properly. I took it twice and got a script error...and I noticed there were some different questions the second time around.

Agree. The pirate ship was frustrating because the bottom row didn't make sense; you had to only consider the top row and not attempt to duplicate the nonsense bottom row.

Test Yourself
You Scored: 5 / 5

Kindergarten, here I come.

Seriously? There's no way my kids could have passed that exam at five years old. Nothing close to the reading comprehension required for the last question, and the matchy-matchy ones, ... maybe they could have seen a pattern. But the biggest trouble would have been that my kids would have had precious little test taking experience by that age. They might have scribbled all over the test, eaten the crayons, and ran in circles until they were so dizzy they fell down. Y'know, like normal kindergarteners.

The period that ends the abbreviation also ends the sentence. If the sentence ends in a different punctuation mark, like a question mark or an exclamation mark, use both. If the sentence is awkward or unclear, rewrite it to move the abbreviation away from the end of the sentence or avoid the abbreviation altogether

I got 4. Hahhahahaaa! Of course the alcohol one. That was easy, because overturning prohibition holds a special place in my heart...from a past life. The other one I got was the one about public education not being mentioned in the constitution. I picked that because in both my past jobs we were mandated to do something to recognize Constitution Day. Because public education was considered a state level issue by our founding fathers, it only stands to reason that institutions receiving any sort of federal funding be mandated by the federal government to have some sort of programming for C-Day.

The law establishing the present holiday was created in 2004 with the passage of an amendment by Senator Robert Byrd to the Omnibus spending bill of 2004.[4] Before this law was enacted, the holiday was known as "Citizenship Day". In addition to renaming the holiday "Constitution Day and Citizenship Day," the act mandates that all publicly funded educational institutions, and all federal agencies, provide educational programming on the history of the American Constitution on that day.[5] In May 2005, the United States Department of Education announced the enactment of this law and that it would apply to any school receiving federal funds of any kind.[3] This holiday is not observed by granting time off work for federal employees.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constitution_Day_%28United_States%29

It's the law, and it's ironical. ;) I think in my previous previous job we hung up posters. In my previous job we were silo'd right out of any responsibility for it: they had high level executives who were responsible for hanging up posters, maybe a blurb on the campus wide info-TVs.

The narrator is going to ask you to choose a bag. Then he will say "Move one." You pick a bag in either direction one bag over from the bag you chose before. You'll do this a few times. Remember, you can go either direction, as long as there is a bag there.

This a video, so, you only get one chance at it, before you know what's what. Also, make sure you can hear your speakers/ear hole pluggers.

Enjoy.

If you got 0-5 right, you're a dwarf planet: You're a small but vital part of the solar system, like Pluto and Ceres.

If you got 6-10 right, you're an inner planet: Whether you're hot stuff like Mercury or a cool customer like Earth, you've got lots of potential.

If you got 11-15 right, you're an outer planet: Like Jupiter or Neptune, you're a giant with many followers and you forge an impressive path.

If you got 16-20 right, you're a star: Congratulations! You deserve your own solar system of loyal planets and moons.

If you got 21-25 right, you're a supernova: You're a master of the universe (and the fount of all the interesting elements). Don't get cocky, you'll be a neutron star soon enough!

Old and busted: How well can you identify company logos?

New hotness: How well can you draw company logos from memory?

Draw just like in MSPaint, hold down left mouse button to draw a line, let off the button to reposition and draw a new line, and draw the logo they've asked for, simple.

It must be:

I also got a B minus. I didn't know one of them at all, and had also forgotten one, so I didn't know that one either. I got F for each of those. But one of them I knew perfectly and got a C- just because I didn't draw as well as they liked.

I'd post my results, but then others would have an unfair advantage when they realized what the logos were and what I drew.

What the hell, I'll post two results, because everyone knows these. I call ROBBERY! I should have been graded the same on each. If my M gets an A- the Swoosh should surely get one too.

A real hard worker you are, yup. If there's one thing you hate, it's being inactive or coming across as lazy. You'll put in more effort than anyone else, even if it may be against your better judgement or even if delagating your work is a smarter option. It's not surprising to see you working all day long, even if it's to help friends out. However, friendship is still important to you, so you will always, always stick to your commitments and keep your promises.

You're a tell-it-like-it-is pony, not holding your tongue and telling whoever whatever's on your mind or what your true thoughts are. Thankfully, you can still pick your words carefully and still keep some sensitivity towards what you say. But, others may find you irritable in appearance if you're not getting your way or you feel against something.

You are also most likely to be athletic and into staying fit, knowing that if you're not, you won't be able to keep up with your work. Fashion and looking good aren't on the top of your priorities, to say the least. You also tend to be very protective of your friends, standing up for them against anyone who is causing them problems, and usually succeeding in warding off any foes. You'd gladly lose a limb if it meant saving a friend's life.

It's a bullshit rationalization, but it's one way of looking at it from outside the box, anyway.

From glittering gold to music's charms, there's no shortage of well-known quotes. There is, however, a shortage of people who actually get them right. During an era when sharing is as close as a smartphone and as universal as a hashtag, accuracy is often left behind. How well do you know these famous quotations? Maybe not as well as you think.

Here's a short quiz about how you see the world.

You have a uniquely creative personality!

The main things in life for you are your intuition, wisdom, joy, satisfaction and curiosity. The world for you is full of mystery, and is made up of so many different things, situations and people which are all constantly stimulating your imagination. Your life is painted in a multitude of beautiful colours, and you're always looking at it through the prism of creativity. You can turn anything that happens to you into something positive, and you never look for simple answers to life's questions.
Hmmm.

You scored
38 out of 40 !

one I just read too fast, my bad.
one I don't agree with, spoiler text below:

which kind of engine produces more torque, gas or diesel. answer in quiz was diesel because the greater chemical density of diesel fuel provides more power. Now I didn't look it up, maybe that part about the energy density is true. however, torque is related to a lot more than just the energy density of the fuel. gearing, bore x stroke, bore vs stroke for a given displacement, compression ratios, lotsa things. but, I quibble.

It's probably because they get paid by the click or visit to the site. If you go to the site and do the quiz it's 1 payment. If you click to a new page for 10 questions, it's 10 payments.

It said I got 97% but they are full of shit. Pointing up is always the safest, otherwise somebody's is going to lose a foot.
Now I have to load arrows for my triggerless shotgun.

The Higher Lower Game - What gets Googled more?

They start by giving you a subject, and then you guess if the second subject has a higher or lower average monthly search count.

That's not a good explanation. Here's an example:

They'll tell you that the search term "NASA" has, on average, 1,000,000 monthly searches. Then, they'll give you a second subject, like, "Princess Diana". You have to guess which has more searches in a month.

It's simpler than I'm making it sound. My explainer no work good today.

It's addictive.;)

We were watching the People's Choice Awards a couple years ago and were dismayed at all the acts that were winning and the great acts that were losing. And then I realized: The winner would be the person my Mother In Law would like more. So for each category, we considered which one my MIL would like, and that was the person/act who always won. We understood after that.

I suspect this Google game is very similar. Just ask yourself, who would glatt's MIL Google first?

It seems like most of those "find the X in the Y" pictures have the thing you're looking for in the lower right quadrant. I wonder if that's me misremembering, or a natural inclination to feel like the lower right is more innocuous than the others.
Gravdigr • Aug 11, 2016 4:55 pm
This one is particularly difficult.

Find the frog:

footfootfoot • Aug 11, 2016 9:36 pm
the oscar was dead simple, as was the dog. I had a cat who would hide in the woodpile and snack on sparrows all day. I can't find the cat because a) I'm assuming it is in the woodpile as my cat was or b) my eyes are having trouble with tiny images. can I embiggen it?

I think I see the frog.

Yeah, a blurry cat is a rubbish hidden thing.
Clodfobble • Aug 11, 2016 11:55 pm
No frog for me. :(
Gravdigr • Aug 12, 2016 7:30 am
When looking for a hidden animal (talking 'bout real animals in a real photo, or irl) always look for the eye (well, most of the time).

Spoiler hint: There is a large leaf in the center(ish) of the photo. Just to the right, there is a vertical frog on a vertical leaf. It is nearly the exact same color as the leaf, but you can see the dark, horizontal stripe (which is vertical in the pic) on it's eye. It's almost all you can see of him, he's so well camouflaged. Just the frog's right is another similar-sized leaf. Froggie is between the two largest leaves in the center/center-right of the pic.:)

Magnavox Odyssey holds a special place in gaming history, as one of the earliest game consoles. From the 70s!

It connected to your TV but didn't have the graphics capability to do color, so there were film overlays, in 13" 19" and 25" sizes. The B&W graphics showed through the film and it was... colorful but not really.

No problem, I see the tree in all three pictures.
lumberjim • Mar 14, 2019 11:49 am
The leopard one has a golden arrow of wheat like fronds pointing to nothing. Coincidence

Well, it's apparent from your post that it wasn't too difficult.;)
Gravdigr • Feb 20, 2020 11:26 am
I didn't really know where to put this.

I put it here.

This pic is a bit unusual. Not all that unusual, just a bit. Okay, maybe you don't think it's unusual at all.

But, it is a pic. And it possesses an unusual characteristic, for lack of a better word that I cannot think of atm.

What's kinda weird about this pic?

The Dutch basketball players are all white? The court seems a little small?
Gravdigr • Feb 20, 2020 12:04 pm
It concerns the players, and the ref, but it's not that they're white...

It's a fairly mundane thing, but when ya notice it, ya can't help but see it.

Please, please help

Nobody is touching the floor? (except maybe the guy with the ball?)
Undertoad • Feb 20, 2020 12:45 pm
by gaw, you're right!

and the guy is not even touching the ball, which makes it weirder
xoxoxoBruce • Feb 20, 2020 2:23 pm
I saw that.
BigV • Feb 20, 2020 2:36 pm
It's lava. Anybody who touches the lava is out, what, are you guys new or something? Weirdly, the lava in The Netherlands is blue.

Help me get my feet back on the ground
Won't you please, please help me?
Gravdigr • Feb 20, 2020 5:07 pm
That's it. Neither the players, nor the ref, nor the ball, are touching the floor.

There are some spectators off to frame right, who I assume are touching the floor.
Griff • Feb 21, 2020 12:38 pm
The one spectator, whose feet we see, is not touching the floor...
xoxoxoBruce • Mar 1, 2020 12:54 am
I think we saw this once before but some may not have.

Man, that took longer than I'd have thought. Pretty sure it's not a venemous one, at least...

That's good camo, although the pic looks like it was manipulated.

Looks like a copperhead to me. I could be wrong, there are some imitators, and look-a-likes.

I treat all snek as venomous, though.
Diaphone Jim • May 27, 2020 12:57 pm
After looking at the YouTube video about this picture twice, I can find what is supposed to be the snake.

Ooh, I think you're right. Looks like it would be death for me then. (Assuming I ever went outdoors, which I try to strictly avoid.)

When I was in SF, there was a demonstration team at Ft. Bragg that had a small village set up in the woods. Visitors would walk through to see all the demonstrations. Along the way, they would see snake prepared for consumption and it was served to them. One of the other nicknames for the Green Berets, "snake eaters", developed from that.

Back then; also, there circulated an artist's drawing that depicted an Green Beret sitting on the ground, snarling, tying a dressing around his lower leg, with an opened "Snake Bite" kit on the ground next to him. Near him was a snake, coiled up, head raised, snarling, a dressing wrapped around its body, pulling taught a dressing tie held in its mouth, with a "Man Bite" kit on the ground next to it.

I don't think that drawing made it to the internet as I've never seen it there.

BTW, I did indeed catch and eat snakes during the survival portion of Special Forces training. Not something I'd buy at the grocery store.
