March 22 2014 (part B): Happiness

because this just can't wait until tomorrow.

At 5pm yesterday (Friday) a judge ruled that the Michigam gay marriage ban was unconstitutional. Unfortunately, the county clerk offices had already closed. And the hundreds in line once again left in disappointment.

But the Washtenaw Office in Ann Arbor office opened today specially so 60 couples who've been waiting a very, very long time to get married could do just that. The first couple in Ann Arbor were my friends who have been first in line every time it seemed like the ban may be overturned. Look at those smiles. Whatever your views on gay marriage, how can your heart not melt at that happiness?

That's awesome, monster. Tell them I said congratulations.

will do :)

I suspect the line waiting to congratulate them is longer than the line for licenses was!

Good luck to them. :celebrat:

Be careful you don't catch the ghey from them, though, it makes you all giddy and smiley and stuff, according to the interwebs.

Man this is great, can't share any more pics (the one above is from Ann Arbor News -and who could beat those smiles anyway-), but my facebook feed is filled with pictures of happy couples and I learned that two teachers at Thor's school tied the knot (not to each other)

Good thing they acted quickly. A federal appeals court in Cincinnati has already reinstated the ban:

The appeals court said the time-out will "allow a more reasoned consideration" of the state's request to stop same-sex marriages.

What the hell does that mean, they think Judge Friedman is wrong? Seems to me they're saying this whole system of progressively higher courts is a waste of money because any decision doesn't mean jackshit unless it comes from the Supremes. :smack:
