Wow, I don't think a triple tanker is even legal in the United States.

I am making lamingtons and sausage rolls. Maybe pavlova later. Besides that, theres cricket on. I might go sit in the spa later...with a rum. :)

Nope. I think there are still states where the short, piggy-back trailers are still not legal.

They get bigger, Rich.

That shell petrol tanker arrangement is a fairly common sight out west. There are lots of little towns with hundreds of kms in between, and they all have servos that need fuel, so the road trains do the run.

You should try overtaking one of those suckers. Can be quite a job on a dirt road, but you dont want to sit behind one either. They leave a dust cloud two miles long.

They may say everything's bigger in Texas, but 'they' obviously havent been to Australia. ;)

interesting that the caption for the Champion says it's a Mack but the truck thinks it's a MAN unit.

not much difference between Mack of the USofA and Maschienenfabrik Augsburg Nurnburg of Germany (fnarr-fnarr)

I see what you mean, but Guiness says Mack Titan, and Muddlex says Mack Titan Tri-Drive, which the picture doesn't confirm. The Shell tanker is a Tri-Drive.

Either way, it was an extreme, a record attempt, and doesn't represent the working road trains in Australia, like the Shell tanker does.

I've heard of Aussie road trains used for livestock transport years back, because the roads, where they existed, were totally empty.

or did I make that up?
xoxoxoBruce • Jan 26, 2014 6:50 pm
Well, if you saw one coming wouldn't you get off the road too. :eyebrow:
Aliantha • Jan 26, 2014 7:06 pm
Road trains arent allowed on all roads, just the outback highways.

There's something weird going on with that first Shell tank. It strikes me that there should be at least one axle under the rear of the first tank. And there are three axles under the front of the tank...
xoxoxoBruce • Jan 29, 2014 7:19 pm
The last two tanks are true trailers riding on dollies, the next tank is a semi riding on three trailing axles of the tractor. Here's another set up, even longer.

Australia pops up on the radar a little bit after WW I, But as the jet travel age matured, She really blossomed.
Waving her boobs from Bondi Beach, turning out leading men for movies, Pop music talent, and exotic drop bears.
As with any flashy dame, always check the shady past. ;)
