The British Library's flickr stream has been entertaining me. Check out this image of the Prince Arthur shooting the Lachine rapids in the St. Lawrence river.

Wild. But it seems fake to me. Nobody would do that with a ship that size. clearly it's an artist's embellishment.

Then I did a little more digging. People actually did this. We are such wimps today. But we do live longer.
