If you don't "get" it put it here, maybe someone will 'splain it. Lil' Griff is playing for Grease teh musical at a local high school that lacked a drummer. I'd only seen bits and pieces of the movie so I never really followed the story. Um, what's the point of this story?
That's the boy love girl/girl loves boy, but society is keeping them apart story. Will they get together by the end? Yes, they will! Because she changes for him. But he was willing to change for her too. So there's a little O'Henry thrown in as well.
But you asked for a point. The point is: If you change who you are, you can find love.
Or in a slightly nicer spin, the cliques that you base yourself on in high school are not real, and to find love you have to admit who you really are and risk not being exactly like all your friends.
Grease is the word, man. Obviously you've never been a 12 year old girl. Seriously, I love Grease, and my young nieces love it too. It's timeless. Its meaning can be summed up by the title song:
I solve my problems and I see the light
We got a lovin' thing, we gotta feed it right
There ain't no danger we can go to far
We start believing now that we can be who we are
Grease is the word
They think our love is just a growing pain
Why don't they understand, It's just a crying shame
Their lips are lying only real is real
We stop the fight right now, we got to be what we feel
Grease is the word it's the word that you heard
It's got groove it's got meaning
Grease is the time, is the place, is the motion
Grease is the way we are feeling
We take the pressure and we throw away
Conventionalitly belongs to yesterday
There is a chance that we can make it so far
We start believing now that we can be who we are
Grease is the word
It's got groove it's got meaning
Grease is the time, is the place is the motion
Grease is the way we are feeling
This is the life of illusion
Wrapped up in trouble laced with confusion
What are we doing?
We take the pressure and we throw away
Conventionality belongs to yesterday
There is a chance that we can make it so far
We start believing now that we can be who we are
Grease is the word
It's got groove it's got meaning
Grease is the time, is the place is the motion
Grease is the way we are feeling
Please don't tell anyone...

Hah! I had a big Sandy poster in my room over my bed. I LOVED Olivia Newton John in 5th grade.
Thanks for the help. I'll try to keep an open mind.
They did a great job on the Friday night show!
Pete found an explanation of what its really about
here.It was set during the 50s. Everybody smoked:
ROSEANNE CONNER
We shouldn't even be sitting here watching TV. TV's the whole way my whole generation learned to smoke anyhow.
JACKIE HARRIS
Oh, come on.
ROSEANNE CONNER
It's true, Jackie. Lucy smoked, Desi smoked, Ward smoked, Make Room for Daddy smoked, Gomez and Morticia smoked, Maxwell Smart smoked, 99, the Chief, Hymie—and he was a robot, but he smoked. Patty smoked.
JACKIE HARRIS
Cathy didn't.
ROSEANNE CONNER
I know, but they made her into a huge nerd. Rob smoked, Laura smoked, Buddy, Sally, Jerry, Millie smoked. I don't know about Samantha, but both Darrins smoked.
I know Olivia Newton-John was smokin'. Smokin' hot!

Odd factoid. That tune and the big Olivia Newton spandex number were not in the show. I don't know if they were not in the original musical or some crazy music rights thing went down.
Ha....that's funny.
I thought so!
