Coe or Ovett?

The announcement that Daniel Radcliffe will play Coe in a new film reminded me of the rivalry between these two British middle distance runners in the 80s.

I didn't pay much attention to sport then, but the Moscow Olympics was hard to avoid and I remember feeling that Coe was the "good guy" and Ovett was somehow the "baddie". I don't know why. Probably my father's opinion.

Now Coe is Lord Coe the politician and Ovett is apparently commentating in Australia.

Do you remember the rivalry and if so, who did you root for?

No. I do not remember the rivalry, and don't know anything about it. But screw that Ovett guy!

I may have vestigal remnants of that situation in my memory...Although I couldn't have come up with Ovett's name to save my life.

If Daniel Radcliff is Coe, then I will root for Coe. I've seen some interviews with him and he's a cool kid.

All three of those kids seemed to have kept their heads screwed on fairly straight, for having become rich and famous so young.
