What is the truth
whereof you speak?

I have read that there is widely considered to be a truth with a small t, and a truth with a capital T.

One is more relative while the other is more of a perceptual state of being.

Maybe the problem is that it is hard to start to look for an ill defined notion of T(t)ruth. Maybe we need a better idea of what we want so we can look for the answer, I'm an engineer, also a Hithchikers Guide to the Galaxy fan.

Also, are you the Queen, is this the Royal us, maybe figure out what is stopping you from seeking your T(t)ruth and if if others can rekate to it maybe it will help them.

Truth is subjective. What's true to me may be false to JB. Searching for it is like reaching for your hand. It's already there.

I believe that there exists an objective truth.

But each of us interpret this truth in different ways because it is filtered by our senses and our personality, which is to say, our our past experiences, our prejudices, etc.

The truth can be difficult to know. But it doesn't change.
Happy Monkey • Sep 25, 2013 3:09 pm
What's stopping you from seeing the truth is that you wrote it on the back of your hands, and then put the palms up to your eyes.

You should write it on your palms, and then hold them far enough away from your eyes to allow light in, and to allow you to focus properly.

Alternately, you could extend your arms, palms down, then cross them and touch the two halves of the "U" to each other. Then you can see it.
lumberjim • Sep 25, 2013 3:27 pm
I was going to make that same wise crack. .. but not nearly as thoroughly.

The truth is out there.

To know the truth, or the Truth, first you must be talking about something, and you must know wtf you are talking about.

Actually, an individual's personal truth can change, depending on the individual's perspective at any given time.

Personal 'truth' (opinion) and perspective are subjective. They change with experience.

I used to think objective truth existed. I still suspect it does, but I've lost my certainty, or maybe just my ability to define it.
lumberjim • Sep 25, 2013 8:52 pm
Unless you're specific about what truth we are talking about, this thread is just poetry.

Grass is green. That's true. Objectively true.

Killing human children is wrong. To me.

Not true to lions.

Are you intentionally trying to muddy the water?

Here, you are using the word "truth" as a synonym for point of view or perception. Your comment and link do not invalidate or even speak to my point positing a big T truth.

It's very difficult to discuss intangible topics even in the best case. It can't work at all unless we are clear what we are discussing.
henry quirk • Sep 26, 2013 3:42 pm
Truth (what is true) is what is 'in accord with fact or reality'.

Any other definition conflates 'opinion' and/or 'belief' with 'truth' and is (at best) a mistake, or, (at worst) a friggin' lie.

Opinions and beliefs are nice (especially when aligned with what is true) but never are opinions and beliefs synonymous with truth.

Well, how 'bout this one: big t, or little t...makes no difference to me. That is my personal truth. Your personal truth at the moment seems to be PISSING ME OFF!

No.

That's your opinion or belief (there's no such animal as *'personal truth').

No, I was trying to be as serious and as logical as possible in attempting to point out of there are different kinds of truth...that one person's truth (or view of truth) may not be the same as another person's truth, and that one's personal truth is based on his/her point of view and way of thinking., and frankly, if you cannot grasp that concept, I suppose there's no point in me attempting any further discussion in this thread.

Your opinion matters.

If your opinion is not to verbalize your opinion
, if your conception of the truth is just pure self-observation, I respect that.

This seems like the obvious answer. Can't argue with it at all. I think Pete's got it.

And also, the video of the guy on the forklift is awesome. I don't know what it has to do with truth, but anyone reading this thread on their phones should view it on their desktop so they can see that video.

The forklift thing reminds me of my job at the defense contractor when I was just out of college.

But for us we would ride the hand trucks (is that what they're called?) like giant skateboards/skis. The business was in a great big old building and there was plenty of room to ride from shipping to the floor, by the cafeteria, etc.

They'd fire you for doing that nowadays. Man, we had fun at that job. Yeah, we worked but we were all 20 somethings, crazy, and adventurous. That enthusiasm was sometimes tempered, of course, when a safety/arming device went awry and blew someone's fingers off. That happened from time to time.

I'm sorry I don't have a GIF of that happening. (Kidding, I kid!)
glatt • Sep 30, 2013 12:07 pm
I was just skateboarding around on a hand truck maybe 3 weeks ago. It was an empty room, so I could get away with it. 46 years old and skateboarding on a freaking hand truck.

You know, the kind that folds down into a 4 wheeler from the vertical 2 wheeler mode.
infinite monkey • Sep 30, 2013 12:08 pm
Is Drax/Datalyss/Sellers/Mortal Caspar really banned, or is he just not engaging in the reality of TRUTH? (A black and white truth, like "he's either banned or he changed his usertitle to seem banned" not like the existential troofiness y'all are yapping about in this thread.)

I still ride the shopping cart to my car if there is a ledge for such. And I'm almost 49. Not much chance to ride hand trucks/dollies, these days.

We didn't have no fancy schmancy folding trucks. We would give each other rides on the dolly, though...you had to trust your driver for sure! THey could drop you like a hot bar stool!

OK, it's complicated. I went back and looked it up a little. Drax requested that UT ban him back in 2008, and so "Drax" has been banned since then.

But then in this thread, as datalyss, he changed his user title to "banned" and tricked everyone. He appears to have just done the same thing as John Sellers, because the John Sellers ID doesn't appear on the banned list.
glatt • Sep 30, 2013 12:35 pm
Yeah, Bill's showing the kind I was thinking of. We don't have those pallet forklift things. And those dollies are ok, but they don't hold enough. We deal with document boxes here, so you want to be able to move 20 at a time instead of just 5.
Dracks • Sep 30, 2013 12:36 pm
That's a shame. I hope Dracks isn't also banned. Or not banned. Or banned on the run. Or rubber banned. Or hair banned.

Okay...so let me get this straight...

Hang on...lemmie sit down for this. Alright...

So the picture I have in my mind now, at 1:55 EST is of a certain member of The Cellar skateboarding on a dolly at work. He then jumps off and moderates some forums and maybe throws a post or two in...does some research, then jumps back on his makeshift skateboard and takes off again....stopping in the distance, makes a personal phone call, then hops back on his merry way.

Then this boss-man type guy comes into the picture...
