San Juan Puerto Rico
Amanda and I are going there next week.
Marriott and the Sellaris Casino.
Anyone been there?
Only on the tarmac on the way to St. Thomas. It should be nice though. They have that old town castle thing.
Accuweather says it's gonna feel like 102-ish.
I hope neither of you wilts in the humidity like I do. I would be suffering.
Hope you have a good time, though.
i never believe the weather report past 3 days. I don't enjoy humidity, but if I'm up to my neck in a pool or blue sea water.....I don't think I'll mind. I just hope it's not rainy.
If you go snorkeling, get an underwater housing for your go pro camera. Were you the one who had a go pro?
no, but Amanda got a cool underwater bag-thing for the Nikon coolpix I got her for Christmas. It has a little screw on lens cover that makes room for zooming. pretty neat.
a reservoir tip to accommodate her camera's... extension? Screw on cover indeed.

Mmmm, beer.

Planning our activities fir the week over a beer and a burger.
Passport isn't need for travel to Puerto Rico, right? I may just completely change my travel plans for this September for there instead. How's the weather?
Right. It's hot and humid as balls. But fuck it. I'm on vacation. I'm wearing shorts. The hotel and casino are air conditioned. The ocean is warm, the pool hot. It's all good. You need to be a morning person here though. All the activities start early. I think we are jet skiing tomorrow.
Looks gorgeous. More pics, please!! (When you get the chance ...)
Was there about 35 or so years ago. We stayed at the El San Juan. Are you going to take the tour of the rum factory?
I remember the trip to the El Morro fortress. Parts of it were crumbling into the sea back then. I'm surprised it's still standing.

Going scuba diving today on the spread eagle.

The Right Color water.
1 -- them ain't two eagles, spread or otherwise
2 -- that's the right color of water if you want to look at a desert covered with thirty feet of water.
...
Ok, I'm envious. I hope you have a wonderful trip!
How do you like the Marriot and why did you pick it?
This is the island where captain Jack Sparrow got marooned:

This is where we stopped first.:

I got Sunburned in this weather?? Really??

**perfect** sunburning weather, actually. who needs sunscreen when it's cloudy and cool? except clouds are transparent to UV rays, amirite? sorry bro.
How did you hook up with this excursion? It looks great.
Amanda did the research on the hotel choice, Pico. Good reviews, good Beach. We booked through cheap Caribbean dot kahm. The hotel concierge has a daily itinerary. Like a menu. I just booked the ATV Adventure for tomorrow.

This was a fun day.

The tour guide was a cool guy.

They showed us how to make war paint from rocks in the river.

Thats a large iguana in the 2nd pic.
They have an infestation problem with them. Running over them was encouraged.

We went up the foot hills of the Yunque rainforest.
Humid, but cooler. Very green.
The guy that took us to the place was a big help planning today's trip to old San Juan, too. Thanks Jorge!
Looks fun (but maybe a little noisy)! How far into the rainforest did you go and were you able to walk any of the trails? Did you see the waterfalls?
Have you been to any casinos yet?
I have already made our plans. Flying in September 6th for 6 nights! I cant wait to see old San Juan and the forts.
That's what we did yesterday.

The Sea side of the fort.

Lots of steps. Wear good shoes!

Old San Juan is charming. They are big on the appearance of their doors. Is like their trademark. Every store sells miniature doors painted brightly. I got a blue one for mom. It's a fridge magnet, and was only $6.99.... but some are hand crafted and sell for $30+

This is the narrowest building in the city. .. We were told narrowest in the world, but I'm skeptical.
Where are you staying, pico?
There's a casino on the first floor of our hotel, but it's lame. Only one$5 black jack table that is always full. A couple$10, a $25 table. I just can't gamble that much money I'm skeered.... and a handful of other table games like craps and roulette. .. but mostly it's slots.
Not on a par with AC. But whatever. .. it's still fun.
The streets of old San Juan are really cool. Made of blue bricks. ..

The most fun we had. ... and we spent from 11am to 11 pm there. .. was at Palmas bar.

it's up top (the city is on hill, so when you go, go to the fort first and then walk down through the city.)
We were down at the bottom and asked a waitress about the specials for happy hour, and she sent us to Palmas, where her full time job is. ... we ran into her in the way out 5 hours and a lot of rum later, and were able to thank her for the tip.

The guy on the right is an aspiring football player. He wants very badly to make the practice squad on a CFL team. He got bounced out of the ncaa for peeing hot repeatedly. (pot) He showed me some video clips of him playing in division 2 games in PR, and he's fast as hell. I hope he makes it, just so the 45 minutes he spent beating my ears about it was worth it. Verrry passionate about it.
The people are so friendly and proud here. The guy at KEK cigars was awesome. .. it rained while we were shopping, so he insisted that we sit and have some sangria in Dixie cups and wait it out. He gave us both a free cigarillo... Amanda had her first, and enjoyed it enough to finish it.

Good times.
I think we are going to just chill today. Recover from the rum, and relax in the pool. We fly out Saturday at 3.... :(
Looks like a Good trip !!!

The trip is over, Corona is empty. Sigh.
It was a great week. I'll get into more detail once I get in front of a computer. posting from my phone is kind of a pain.
Also, I want to get the pictures Amanda took with her camera.
Great time with my hunny.

It looks like you guys had a great time. I cant wait to here more about it and see more pics!
After two days of exhaustively comparing the resorts and their reviews, I decide on the Intercontinental at Isla Verde. At first, I was trying to choose between La Concha and the Marriot where you stayed, but I think we are going to like the pool and beach more at the Intercontinental. Plus, it looks like it might have a more comfy room (a couch with a coffee table). Who knows, though, internet searching is sometimes a crapshoot. There were so may variables to juggle that I nearly pulled my hair out. I get really OCD about this...lol. I mean
REALLY. Even though all I really want is a nice relaxing pool/beach with drinks vacation, it looks like I am not going to be able to resist a few outings. Old San Juan is a must and so is the rain forest. Im also thinking of doing the bio bay thing at night....there supposed to be very little moon when we are there.

hmm. that last lot came out blurry. I have high res copies... but they're huge. I'll see about resizing them at higher resolution later. I have more signs from the fort to post too. out of time right now....
I wish we had thought to rent a scooter when we were in old San Juan.

the coqui frog. We thought it was birds until the guy from the ATV tour told us about them. I recorded this on the street outside our hotel that night.
do they come wrapped in olives?
