Does anyone have the answer as to why my hostas are struggling after 5 years? I've transplanted them, but they won't grow. everywhere I go, people have these huge monster plants.
Momdigr's hostas are only like 1-2 feet across (several years old). She says they're supposed to be separated every year, but, she doesn't do that.
Maybe that's why her's are small?
I assume that you aren't in a (too) small pot? Momdigr's are in the ground, in the shade.

He must stay in the shade a lot, too.

Post a picture. I divided mine and the ones I planted under a maple tree are stunted. Prolly not enough sun and the trees prolly gobble up all the nutrients in the soil.
