Abolish the DHS?

Some pinko-commie-islamo-liberal at Bloomberg Newsweek reckons the US ought to abolish the department of homeland security.

Beyond the waste of money and the overregulation, the expansion of the homeland security state has created unnecessary fear among a population that should be able to trust its government to send accurate signals about risk.

Sounds like a darn good idea, to me.

Yes but if the US government stops spying on the citizens, that'll just leave the Russians, and we all know what those guys are like!

DHS has many branches and not all should be abolished.

The Coast Guard is probably worth its budget, for example.

But those things existed before they were put under the umbrella of DHS. They could just be moved back to their old departments.

Yes, but I didn't see Bloomberg or Zen propose that. They were all like kill it, acting like... well, Homeland security. ;)

That is in fact the proposal from Bloomberg. Restore the necessary bits to their pre-War-on-Terror forms, and massively trim back the rest, in accordance with evidence based assessment of risk and effectiveness.

Grav, you jut got yourself on The List.

Could you please explain what you mean by "jihad"?

The greater struggle, the lesser struggle? Holy war? Military action?
