My Kids' road trip with jinx
They just got on the Turnpike. Headed west. I've been promised daily updates with locations and pictures. I'll put it all in this thread, so they can review it when they get home...
There is no specific route set, I'm told.... which is the way to do it. Just the three of them.... which I'm only marginally worried over... jinx can handle herself....
so, here's the first entry:

Leaving Downingtown, Pa at 10:43 am, entered PA turnpike at 11:12 AM west bound.
Text from Spencer at 3:45 pm crossing the PA/OH border. ...
so they are speeding
edit: 310.5 miles, 5 hours, average speed 62 mph. They had to stop to pee
7:34pm:
"Dammit, I missed the picture of the Indiana sign!"
so they are speeding
edit: 310.5 miles, 5 hours, average speed 62 mph. They had to stop to pee
Knowing jinx, I'd say that's a safe bet. The speeding more than the peeing, that is.
they are driving through Illinois on rte 80 presently. 100 miles to Iowa.
Clinton Iowa.
edit..... still on rte 80... they must be in Davenport. Clinton is north of there on rte 30.
Wait, no specific route set I understand, but is there a specific destination?
They mentioned going to Moab and setting up camp and doing day trips from there for a time.... but that could have changed.... All my info comes from the kids, and they are a little vague.

Gas station in Iowa. This is the first pic I've gotten from them. Exciting stuff.
that might be jinx's left arm in the corner. I asked the boy to try to get her to pose for you guise.... we shall see.
The gas stations in Iowa look like the gas stations around here
Omaha!

Ripley just called from Lincoln Nebraska. They are staying overnight there and then heading towards Denver tomorrow.
I'm so jelly
I remember driving into Colorado and thinking it was gonna be all mountains and stuff, but as I recall, you have to drive for 2-3 hours before you see anything but flat nothing. I remember being disappointed.

WTF. I am on 80 twice a day, five days a week. Wish I'd known.
--not that I am a regular poster anymore, but still. --and not that she would have wanted to see me...
Bummer. :(

I got the kids hooked up to a GPS app. They are camping in Chatfield State Park South Columbine Colorado

Well, the scenery has certainly improved:

Envious. I freaking love Utah and the Colorado Plateau. So beautiful.

This makes me slightly less jelly
Sho nuff is. I hope they are staying in the shade and drinking lots of water!
That is rather warm, isn't it? And it was a long drive.
Are they in training to visit Down Under? ;)
Seriously, looks like a great trip all round, and I love the messages from Spence.
Hi to Jinx if she sees this.

The little bastards are out there having a fun time four wheeling. So. Freakin. Jelly.

Like being on mars
It's amazing how closely you can follow someone like this. Good thing you're his dad, else this would be seriously creepy.
That's what he said when I sent him a picture of the campsite he was in the other night.
I believe the direct quote was," yeah, that's not creepy or anything"
This program is really cool actually... it is called life 360. It shows police, fire, and sex offenders, on the map. You can turn off or hide from the GPS if you don't want dad snooping on you.
I actually used it to find Amanda at the Dave Matthews concert last night. Of course I had no signal when I got close to her but it got me into the right area
2nd pic in post #34 shows a GIANT REPTILIAN EYEBALL!
RUN!!!!!!!!!!!!
They are laying low today hanging around the campsite and swimming. They found a better campground that has roofs over the campsites and the nice pool

As in, police stations, fire stations and home address of sex offenders, or the real-time locations of these?

Maybe in the civilian version. :eyeball: :eyeball: :tinfoil: Oh wait, that isn't :tinfoil: anymore.
Of course, the system can be beaten if you leave your mobile phone at home, or better, get someone else to carry it. But that would involve a teenager not having their mobile with them, which means the system is indeed unbeatable.
ETA: I
really hope the password to use this app is "IsolemnlyswearIamuptonogood".
It's Ripley's birthday today. I got a text from her titled 'birthday pint.'

Thats really cool. Kids are getting HUGE!
HiJinx ... {waves}
Huge

Kids did the Grand Canyon yesterday. Looks like they're heading toward the West Coast today.
Who needs a gps when they could have an ipod?

Just take my way that's the highway that's the best

It might be better if they did not stop for the night in Searchlight.
We can't stop here! This is Bat Country!
They made it all the way to San Clemente before they camped again. Looks like they are right near the beach.

Reports are all good.... kids enjoying the beach... Ripley stepped on a nettle, but did NOT pee on the welt to relieve the pain..... She did some body surfing, shopped for vegetables and SMORES ingredients.... for after their polenta and vegetable dinner...
The boy is enjoying the sub 90 temperature and the beach camping....

As epic as this trip already is ... they still have to get back.

Vhatchooo talkin bout, Villis?
The 4th of July Google Doodle features a road trippin' family.
O, is that what that is?
I see.
Nice. A Sequoia upskirt.
today we are going through nevada, trying to get to yellowstone to camp, we went through yosemite yesterday
soooo jelly
Yosemite and Yellowstone are on my bucket list.
Jelly indeed.
Not jelly, been there, done that, several times. I'd rather stay out of the way so these kids can a feel for the size and variety this country has to offer. Every citizen should be required to travel the length of the country on the ground, even if it's on a train/bus, but preferably with a car/camper/Bike, before they can vote.

Jelly indeed.
be sure not to google supercaldera before you go, mmmkay?
Yeah, I know that bit. It probably won't explode while I'm there.
Got home Friday night. Lots of pictures to sort through and stories to hear.
I'll bet enough stories to last them for years. :D
ripley sent me a
link to some of the nicer photographs that jinx took on that trip.
this one is exceptional:

She's got a great eye
Of course with the scenery in that bunch of pictures it's hard to go wrong. But Jinx always took good pictures, she could make the most mundane thing into an interesting photograph. She could even make Jim look good. :haha:
Jinx's photos were marvellous.
Still are, just I don't get to see them.
Am also velly jelly.
She's got a great eye
And her rack's not half bad either...
:bolt:
Not comparable, unless the eye is glass.
:bolt:

:bolt:
Oh snap.
And the rack was much better than the eye, believe me.
I don't think it's a knock against her. She sacrificed her perky b cups to breast feed 2 kids. They were a source of angst for her for years.( the sagging tits, not the kids) The dr did a great job, as some of you have seen. Worth every penny.
The inevitable divorce jokes regarding division of those particular martial assets are kind of fun too.
Glass, grass, or ass; nobody rides for free.
Martial assets?
Did she have machine guns inserted too?
:D

bwaaaahahahahhahahhaahaha!
Ha. I didn't even notice that. Damn you autocorrect.
