Emergentcy movie suggestion thread

I need brain candy, but not cheap, ulcerate your mouth Christmas hard candy, something more like Lindt hazelnut chocolate bar brain candy.

No suggestion will go ungoogled.

I watched Cloud Atlas last night. I think I sprained one of my lobes or a cortex or something.

Help!

Not sure I understand. A smart movie, but not trying too hard to be smart?

Have you seen Children of Men? That was a surprise to me how good it was. Kind of like Shawshank. I went into both knowing nothing about them.

Just watched Argo, really good film making.

Two of my personal favorites: The Razors Edge directed by John Byrum and Magnolia directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. Thanks for the review of Cloud Atlas, I'll prolly watch it tonight.

Oh and if you want your brain to do a sit up inside of your crank case, watch Memento directed by Christopher Nolen.

I watched memento with a guy who had a damaged hippocampus. Same as the guy in the film. No ability to form new memories, but his pre-injury memory was intact. Sad and strange. The things we take for granted-some of them we don't even realize.

Brain candy is the opposite of a smart movie, it's entertaining, not filling or thought provoking. a mental vacation.

Seen Troll Hunter yet?

Star Trek: Into Darkness was damn fun, but you will find political commentary if you pay too close attention.

Looks like The Blair Troll Project. I did like that Norwegian Zombie film, Dead Snow. How can you go wrong with Nazi Zombies? You can't.

How many times did you watch the movie with him?
footfootfoot • May 26, 2013 8:46 pm
heheheh. Just the one time but he's already seen it.
ZenGum • May 26, 2013 9:37 pm
Yes, but, how many times did you watch the movie with him?
Chocolatl • May 26, 2013 10:04 pm
I just watched Kiss Kiss Bang Bang for the first time recently, starring Robert Downey Jr and Val Kilmer. One of my new favorite movies.

Got few movies of Ghibli studios from my girlfriend last month. Didn't get time to check them till last night (being suspicious of Japanese animation and all that). Have to say I was missing out something real good. Those which have been directed by Miyazaki are extra special treats. I am talking about 'Spirited Away' and 'Howl's Moving Castle' in particular.
Highly recommended folks!

KKBB - on my list for tonight, if I can get it via Apple TV or Netflix. I love RDJr. Also in the mood for brain candy.
Chocolatl • May 27, 2013 7:36 pm
I got it via Amazon Instant Video, if all else fails.

Girls, Guns and Gambling. I had written Christian Slater off completely until I saw and thoroughly enjoyed this movie.

Wasn't that originally the first draft of Jared Diamond's book?
