Lighting up the sky...... help?

I'm helping with the decorations for the Senior post-graduation all night lock-in party at the high school. I've found searchlight rental to "mark the spot" but it would be so cool if we could either project our logo into the sky batman-call style or laser-write it in the sky, but I'm having less luck finding anything like this. Sny tips on search terms to use etc would be appreciated,

thanks

I don't know if searchlight rentals are out there. Maybe you could rent a light unit like they use on construction sites at night? You'd need low cloud cover for the symbol. You could use a flood lamp and logo cutout projected on an outside wall though.

If you've found at least one searchlight rental place, maybe ask them what's possible? It might be as simple as hand-cutting your logo out of cardboard and putting it on top of their equipment. Or maybe that would get way too hot and start a fire. Hey, teenagers love bonfires!

The silhouettes you describe are made of metal, usually stainless steel for the type of lights used by photographers and movie industry. I'd bet the searchlights they use are Carbon-arc lights which can give you a sunburn if you stand NEAR them for even brief periods of time. I've never heard of silhouettes for a Carbon -arc lamp, though.

Would be worth checking ARRI's website or Mole-Richardson to see what's available. I've been out of the industry too long.
